Ana de Armas is ready to set the stage on fire with Ballerina, scheduled for a June 6 release. This action-thriller spin-off brings Armas into the John Wick universe. She will co-star with The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus, as well as other franchise regulars. A few new images have just surfaced online, courtesy of IGN.
The images have arrived shortly before the event for the film's Fire and Ice trailer. It will be available tomorrow from 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET onwards on the Lionsgate Movies YouTube channel. The video description suggests that Ana de Armas will be seen along with flamethrowers.
It comes nearly six months after fans got their first look at Armas in this action-packed role. Lionsgate unveiled an official trailer back in September 2024, followed by a CCXP Extended Look.
Ballerina: New images show Ana de Armas and Norman Reedus in a deadly avatar in this John Wick spin-off
IGN has just unveiled a few exclusive images from Ballerina, the upcoming John Wick spin-off. It will follow Ana de Armas as Eve, a skilled assassin who hopes to seek revenge for her father's death. She is trained in the Ruska Roma organization, which gives her a competitive edge against her rivals.
The first image shows Armas leaning next to a mirror while there's blood on the wall behind her. Another image shows her opposite Ian McShane, who will reprise his role as Winston. They seem engaged in a difficult conversation, with Eve possibly seeking counsel from Winston.
The rest of the images show Norman Reedus with a gun, presumably in a hotel room, and Anjelica Huston, likely in the Tarkovsky Theater, where she serves as the director.
While speaking about her preparation for Eve's role, Ana de Armas told IGN,
“Eve has been trained to be the best among the best, by the same people that trained John Wick, but she’s a woman, smaller than most men in the film, so I wanted to find a way of building the fights embracing that quality, using it to my advantage."
She further added,
"I wanted to be realistic with the efforts she makes to stay alive and the pain she’s feeling every step of the way. Because she’s a ballerina, she’s very good with close combat flights, she’s fast and always three steps ahead, using real life objects as weapons, turning simple things into something deadly, which is a quality that I love.”
Ballerina is the first John Wick universe film not directed by Chad Stahelski. Instead, Len Wiseman has taken over this responsibility. Wiseman's previous directorial credits include Colin Farrell-led Total Recall (2012), Bruce Willis-led Live Free or Die Hard (2007), and the first two Underworld films.
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is slated to be released on June 6, 2025.
