Oprah Winfrey threw a surprise birthday party for her best friend Gayke King's 70th birthday. On December 14, Winfrey posted a video in which the two can be seen walking into a venue before King jumps back in surprise after being greeted by her loved ones.
The video then shows a room full of guests singing "Happy Birthday" at Ci Siamo in New York City. The captioned the post saying,
"My bestie of 50 years is turning 70 so we gathered everyone that loved her to celebrate. Hard thing to suprise her, O the stories we have made up, the lies we have told to keep this a secret. Happy birthday @gayleking, sorry we almost gave you a heart attack."
After the video was reposted by Spencer Althouse on X, netizens took to the comment section to express their opinions on the surprise birthday party.

It's no news that Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King have had a strong friendship, with Oprah throwing her friend a surprise birthday party recently. The two first met while working for Baltimore news station WJZ-TV around 50 years ago. Their friendship started after Oprah offered King a place to stay during a snowstorm.
The two have been public about their close friendship, even leading to rumors of them being a couple over the years. However, the two shut these rumors down during an appearance on the July 24, 2024, episode of Moments That Make Us.
When series host Melinda French Gates asked Oprah and Gayle if they were comfortable sharing everything, Winfrey, responded by saying,
"I think we've shared pretty much everything and I would have to say, it wasn't even a matter of navigation. You know, for years, people used to say we were gay, and listen, we were up against that forever. And people still may think it."

Winfrey while speaking to PEOPLE in 2022, said Gayle had become her "mother", "sister", "friend" and all the things that she has never had.
