Recently, NASCAR legend Richard Petty shared pictures of him and his son Kyle Petty on X as they stood on the victory lane at the Daytona International Speedway ahead of the Daytona 500. Excited, they spoke about the upcoming race to the host and shared their opinions.

Kyle Petty, son of NASCAR legend Richard Petty, is an accomplished race car driver. Born on June 2, 1960, Kelly has been the NASCAR USG Person of the Year twice in the years 1998 and 2000, respectively. As a child, Kyle wanted to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, Lee Petty, and his father.

Kyle started his 30-year NASCAR career at 18 as a cup series driver. On winning the race, he became the youngest driver to win a major-league stock car race. Kyle won his first cup series in 1986. After retirement, he began co-hosting the NASCAR RaceDay.

Early Life

Now a television personality, philanthropist, musician, and motivational speaker, Kelly made his acting debut with the movie Stroker Ace in the year 1983. He has been a commentator for Speed TV, TNT, and Fox Sports. He also hosts a radio show and a digital series titled 'Coffee With Kyle' and 'Dinner Drive With Kyle Petty' respectively.

A philanthropist at heart, Kyle has been hosting the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America since 1995. This charity ride has produced millions of dollars that have provided aid to children's hospitals. He also runs Victory Junction - a camp that funds children with chronic diseases in honor of his late son Adam.

Married to his second wife Morgan, with whom she has three sons named Davant, Cotton, and Overton, Kyle's 19-year-old son Adam Petty died in a car accident in May 2000 when his throttle got stuck, and his car slammed onto the outer wall of the track. Adam was the son of Kyle and Pattie, Kyle's first wife. Kyle still laments the death of his late son. He recently wrote about his life, family, and career in his biography titled 'Swerve or Die.'

Swerve or Die: A story of one of the most legendary racing families

Kyle released his biography on August 9, 2022, with Ellis Hennican. The book covers details of the life and career of the Petty family. From Lee Petty's early days as a racer to Richard Petty's rise as the 'NASCAR King.' There are stories of the family's beginnings in Randolph County, North Carolina, and their journey to success at NASCAR. He also gives a detailed account of his history as a racer and Adam's regretful death. The book, however, is about his personal experiences, beliefs, and stories.

Kyle decided to pen down his experiences when he began writing short stories about his life. It was then that his wife Morgan motivated him to write down all the stories in a book. In an interview with WCNC, Petty gave details and said

"I had no idea what to do with [the stories]. My wife said you need we need to get in touch with somebody, so I called my agent and they hooked me up with Ellis Henican."

Henican helped Petty construct stories of his past, some of which he didn't even know he remembered. He would meet Petty at Ballantyne or talk to him virtually to help him write down his thoughts.

The book is available now to read. You can find it at various literature retailers, including Barnes and Noble and Amazon.
