Kendrick Lamar secured the second spot on DJ Akademiks' Spotify Wrapped list for 2024, and it didn't take him long to hop on X and offer an explanation. AK's love for Drake is well-known, so he was expected to make it to No.1 on his list. However, Lamar coming in second drew varied reactions online.

On Wednesday, he defended himself on Wednesday by noting that he had to listen to his idol's competitor to know what the two are really beefing about. However, the internet was not convinced. Here's what one user stated:

"Ak we know what you are."

Scores online had a lot to say:

"ni*** convincing us why he got kendrick in his playlist. no one asked for an explanation bro," one user joked.
"he a fan he a fan he a fan," someone else jokingly rapped.
"It's okay man. You can like music besides Drake. It'll be okay," a third person jested.
"A whole paragraph on why Kendrick Lamar is #2 on your wrapped is crazy," someone else opined.

The comments didn't end there:

"Bro is gaslighting himself into thinking he's not a fan of someone, even though he's been listening to their music all year long, that's crazy ngl," one user pointed out.
"Writing a whole synopsis because you liked a song is crazy," someone else echoed.
"or you love Kendrick like we all do and tryna justify it to the drake stans," yet another posited.
"you don’t have to listen more than once lmao," a fourth person noted.

Several users online were of the opinion that DJ Akademiks was secretly a fan of Kendrick Lamar.

DJ Akademiks claims he was contributing to the "musical competition" between Drake and Kendrick Lamar

On December 4, DJ Akademiks took to X to give his two cents:

"Normally Kendrick Lamar wouldn't sniff my spotify wrapped.. but he's #2 on mine.. the explanation for that is thats what happens when u beef with every1 favorite rapper.. we gotta listen to ur shit too cuz of the beef. Beefing when its just musical competition helps both artists."

He went on in another tweet, noting that this was all “proof that beefing with a bigger artist is the ultimate stimulus package u can get.”

DJ Akademiks' stance follows his vocal support of the One Dance rapper, noting that he is the only one in his corner. He also claimed, as reported by Complex, that Drake doesn’t “f**k with nobody else in media.”

His comments came amid Drake's decision to sue UGM, his and Lamar's home label. He accused them of inflating Not Like Us by using payola, bots, and even reducing the licensing rates for Spotify.

As for Kendrick Lamar, the rapper's latest album, GNX, debuted at a dominating position on the Billboard 300 chart. It also sold over 300k worth of album units, Hot New Hip Hop reported, even making an impression on DJ Akademiks. He said during a recent segment that he thinks it's "a decent number."

He also noted, "There's a bunch of Drake fans here and Kendrick fans here who want to compete and compare these two. There is no comparison. I keep trying to tell you: Kendrick could die 15 deaths, he doesn't compete with Drake overall for streaming."
