The box office has found it's new winner among this year's releases, and it's Ryan Coogler's Sinners; making a stunning entry as one of the biggest films of 2025. Thanks to fantastic reviews and audience response, Sinners topped the domestic box office rankings this past weekend, within less than a week after it's release.

After seeing a spike in earnings on Saturday, the film made an estimated $45 million in the first three days of its release in North America. In addition to its remarkable 97% audience score and an A grade on CinemaScore from opening day audiences, Sinners has a "certified fresh" 98% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Made on a budget of $90 million, the film has already made half of it's money in just three days.

Sinners has dethroned A Minecraft Movie, which held the top spot on box office lists. Although Jared Hess' video game adaptation is still the biggest Hollywood film of the year, it's likely that Sinners will most probably chase that title as well, considering it's performance everywhere.

Both the films come under Warner Bros., which seems to be basking in quite some success as of now. A Minecraft Movie has crossed the $700 million mark and is currently chasing for a seat at the billion club. Even though it opened to mixed reviews and quite a low Rotten Tomatoes score, the film has done significantly well, defying the negative reviews and climbing all the way up.

What is Sinners about?

Sinners is a story about one fateful night in a quiet town where a newly opened juke club and it's music invites in a coven of vampires who hunt down the villagers. Starring Jordan in a dual role of Smoke and Stack, the film shows how the twins battle against the coven and aim to protect their cousin Sammie- who the vampire leader is after. Miles Caton, a fresh pick who made his debut with the film stuns as the musical prodigy Sammie.

Apart from it's horror elements, the film has underlying elements of music, love and a sense of community as it explores the emotional bonds between the characters. According to Coogler, the film is gender fluid as Jordan talked about the director's vision for the film and said:

“Yeah, this movie is about love. The love of music, the love of blues, the love of your culture, the love of family, the love for your freedom. There’s so many characters that have a love for something in this movie, and it’s all intertwined, and they all end up together, you know what I’m saying, in one place. And love is the thing that gets them through.”

Sinners is now in theaters.
