Adrien Brody's second Oscar win for The Brutalist was undoubtedly the most talked about moment of the night. The actor, who received widespread acclaim and honor for his role as László Tóth, took home his second Academy Award after winning for the first time in 2003 for his role in The Pianist.
Brody holds the record for being the youngest actor to win Best Actor in a Leading Role for his role in the latter, taking home the honor at 29 as he became the only actor to have won an award in the category before hitting thirty. However, at the 2025 Oscars, Brody set another Oscar award as he stood on stage to give his acceptance speech, setting a record for the longest-ever Oscar-winning monologue.
During his speech, at one point, the music interrupted his speech as he requested them to allow him more time. On stage, the actor said,
"I’m wrapping up. Please. Please. I will wrap up. Please turn the music off. I’ve done this before. It’s not my first rodeo. I will be brief."
Although long, his speech was undoubtedly heartfelt as he credited his family for his success and made a reflection on the years he journeyed to this moment. Talking about his family, he said,
“I share this with my amazing partner Georgina. who has not only reinvigorated my own self-worth, but my sense of value and my values. Dash and India, I know it's been a roller coaster, but thank you for accepting me into your life. Popsie’s coming home a winner.”
Adrien Brody spoke for five minutes and forty seconds after emotionally accepting the award on stage. This record was previously held by Greer Garson, who gave a speech of five minutes and thirty seconds in 1943 for her role in Mrs Miniver. The Academy generally usually urges winners to keep their speeches under a minute.
How did Adrien Brody react to people criticizing his long speech?

Brody is no stranger to the buzz online on the length of his speech. The Oscar moment has now become a huge social media topic as many commented and criticized the actor for his long speech. Memes followed, as well as reaction pieces.
Taking to Instagram, Adrien Brody posted a video where he acknowledged his win and said,
“I’m gonna keep this video short cause I know I made the longest Oscars speech in history. So, I love you all. You know I’m grateful. Keep smiling and I hope that this proves that dreams can come true, and I hope that your dreams come true as well. God bless you.”
