Saturday Night Live, or SNL, took an interesting approach to the recent TikTok trends during its October 19, 2024 episode. The episode, which had Billie Eilish as the musical guest, included a comedic skit that humorously mocked the content often found on TikTok feeds.

In the skit titled TikTok, an unseen character receives a text from "Bae" asking about their location. Although the character responds that they are on their way, they become sidetracked by TikTok and begin scrolling through various popular trends on the app.

One of the TikTok trends that the SNL skit portrayed was ‘tradwife,’ for which Heidi Garner appears to play a pregnant tradwife. With clips from the skit getting viral on social media, netizens had a lot of reactions. One X user commented:

“Accurate but cringe asf.”

Online users highlighted particular trends they enjoyed from the SNL skit, with many feeling that it captured a wide range of popular content.

“The black wife effect made me LOL,” a netizen wrote.
“Damn! They covered everything with this one lol,” a social media user reacted.
“This whole thing is accurate, but these two had me in tears!!!” another person pointed out.

Netizens were surprised at how SNL could produce two skits in one month while remaining fixated on the accuracy of the trends.

“Two good snl skits in a month??? I can’t believe it,” a person commented on X.
“This whole thing was spot on,” an X user mentioned.
“The Kamala text had me weakkk,” another netizen pointed out.
“NFL making a funny skit? Lmao, hell has frozen over,” a netizen reacted.

Exploring some of the trends portrayed in the SNL skit

Michael Keaton returned to SNL, marking his fourth time as host and placing him among the few stars to host the show across four decades. Compared to his last appearance in 2015, his screen time in this episode was approximately six minutes shorter.

The first trend featured a fitness influencer, portrayed by Ashley Padilla, attempting to persuade followers to purchase exercise equipment. Afterward, Kenan Thompson appeared as food reviewer Keith Lee, known for sampling various menu items from his car. He tried the Hennessy habanero Fruity Pebbles chicken sandwich from Lisa’s Soul Food in Atlanta but eventually gave it a thumbs down.

After a brief appearance by new SNL cast member Emil Wakim dancing with a cat, Heidi Gardner appeared as a pregnant "tradwife," referencing the 1950s-inspired movement popular on TikTok. She humorously explained how she slaughtered a cow and picked corn to prepare tacos for her husband.

Devon Walker then appeared as "Dr. Omar," referencing the controversial psychologist Dr. Umar Johnson, and accidentally revealed he was in a relationship with the fitness influencer.

Chloe Fineman recreated an episode of the popular Call Her Daddy podcast hosted by Alex Cooper, while Bowen Yang impersonated influencer Harry Daniels, singing to get the attention of Vice President Kamala Harris, played by Maya Rudolph, and former President Donald Trump, portrayed by James Austin Johnson.

At the end of the skit, Daniels encountered Billie Eilish, who handed him a stack of money to stop singing. The final reveal showed that “Bae” was the "tradwife" who had just given birth to her 11th child while her husband was distracted by TikTok, texting him in frustration for missing the birth of their son.
