Academy to bring back a long tradition back in Oscars 2025

The 2025 Oscars are around the corner, and the industry is already abuzz with speculations and guesses about this year's wins. As a highly successful year for cinema, 2024 saw the rise of multiple genres and films that are all strongly competing against each other at this year's ceremony. With less than a week to go, the award show is also lifting the veil on traditions it will follow this year.

The Academy has revealed that they are bringing back an age-old tradition this year that has not been seen on the show in recent years. This year, clips of actors in roles will be a part of the nomination announcement, as will scenes of the actors in action.

Veteran director Raj Kapoor and showrunner Katy Mullan also revealed that this year's presenters will be chosen who have some connection to the nominees. Calling "connection" to be the theme at this year's ceremony, he added,

“We’ve really leaned into the theme. What inspires us about moviemaking is the alchemy behind it — so many incredible people coming together to create a masterpiece.”

Fans can expect to see some surprising cameos and collaborations at this year's ceremony, as Mullan went on,

“The magic of movies comes from collaboration. We want to highlight that. This show is part of a continuum. We’re honoring the past, reflecting the present, and inspiring the future of filmmaking.”

The director also spoke about the range the Academy has seen this year, as he added,

“One thing we’ve been blessed with this year is a wide range of nominees. There are 13 first-time acting nominees alone. That energy, that fresh perspective, is thrilling.”

Frontrunners at this year's Oscars

With a diverse group of nominations at this year's Oscars, certain projects are looking ahead as guesses ablaze on social media on who will take home the coveted award.

Timothee Chalamet and Adrien Brody are popular contenders for Best Actor in a Leading Role this year, both having won significant awards in this field. Demi Moore and Cynthia Erivo are in talks for the Best Actress in a Leading Role, while Zoe Saldana leads the nominations for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

A Complete Unknown and The Brutalist are buzzing with Oscar wins, while Emilia Perez follows. Most of these guesses have already taken flights of reality at this year's SAG awards and Golden Globes, but the Academy does like to surprise fans so who knows!
