Aaron Taylor-Johnson's 28 Years Later teases fans with a fresh new look

Aaron Taylor Johnson's highly anticipated 28 Years Later has dropped another new look at the film as it nears its release. Published by Empire magazine, new photos from the film have garnered more excitement among fans for the project that has been in the making since 2024.

The film, which comes after 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, will focus on Britain in its post-apocalyptic era after the zombie apocalypse and how survivors got by.

The official trailer for the film showed glimpses of the film and how the zombie apocalypse affected everyone. It featured Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson in their respective role, building excitement among the fans.

Danny Boyle is directing the film with Alex Garland writing the script. Filming for 28 Years Later started in 2024 and is all set to release in June 2025. Apart from this, the sequel to the upcoming film, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, is also set to release in 2026.

What is the plot of 28 Years Later?

The official synopsis of the film reads:

"It's been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well."

Apart from the synopsis, Ralph Fiennes also let fans in on more details about his character as he talked about how he's playing a doctor:

"It centres on a young boy who wants to find a doctor to help his dying mother. He leads his mother through this beautiful northern English terrain. But of course, around them hiding in forests and hills and woods are the infected."

Fiennes noted adding:

"But he finds a doctor who is a man we might think is going to be weird and odd, but actually is a force for good."

Aaron, Jodie Comer, and Alfie Williams will be playing a family surviving in the post-apocalyptic world as they navigate through their lives and attempt survival. It will mostly revolve around quarantined survivors living on a highly secure and guarded island. The film is set to be a part of a trilogy, but the makers are keeping the curtains on more details surrounding the next two films as the green light for them will solely depend upon the audience's reaction to 28 Years Later.

Cillian Murphy was earlier rumored to be on the film but newer reports suggest that it is unlikely he'll be a part of it.
