It's 2025, and James "Jimmy" Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, has remained the world's most subscribed YouTuber. He is famous for the over-the-top challenges and immensely viral content he and his team create.
Besides some of the outlandish video titles, MrBeast also creates content focusing on helping people and giving back to the community. One of his recent videos belongs to the same category, where Donaldson and his team helped over 2,000 amputees walk again with the help of prosthetics. Through the video titled, "I Helped 2,000 People Walk Again," The Beast Games creator also criticized the state of the healthcare system in the US.
MrBeast wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
"Just uploaded a video where we helped 2,000 amputees walk again. Many lived in America and it feels so disgusting that in a country with this much wealth, a f**ken YouTuber is their only option to get a prosthetic leg. We need to fix this."
The video captures the emotional moments of those who weren't able to walk for years and were finally given the opportunity.
"It just doesn't sit right with me" – MrBeast on amputees getting their insurance denied
Through his 15-minute and 31-second-long video, Jimmy Donaldson, aka MrBeast, interacted with various people who shared their struggles of being an amputee. The video features those unable to walk for months (or even years) getting back on their feet. During the video, Donaldson talked to a representative of Martin Bionics, Oklahoma City.
The conversation revealed that the prosthesis typically cost anywhere between $5,000 and $50,000, which many of the amputees in the video weren't able to afford due to inadequate insurance coverage. At the same time, some weren't able to afford insurance at all. For instance, one of the people featured in the video revealed that it would have taken him "10 years" to afford a prosthetic leg.
"The fact that some of these people had insurance and were denied. Some of these people had insurance but didn't have the right coverage. It just doesn't sit right with me."
He added,
"Their only hope right now of getting a prosthetic leg, so they can walk again… so they can go get a job, is for a YouTube to step in and help them. Which is absurd. I don't know what the answer is, but I wanted to say this so the 100 million people watching this can get inspired, because what I saw when filming this video is just obviously not okay."
Besides the US, MrBeast helped amputees from nations like Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Ecuador, Guatemala, Kenya, and more. In the course of making his video, Donaldson also joined hands with ROMP Global, an organization aimed at helping the underprivileged in underdeveloped countries. The organization aims to provide quality prostheses at an estimated 1/10th of the price using recycled components.
On X, MrBeast was praised by many for his initiated, and here are some of those reactions:
"God bless. Thanks for using your platform to make the world a better place," @HabibiCapital_ wrote.
"I hope more millionaires help physically challenged people," @DannyDrinksWine added.
"MrBeast has his issues, but he's overall a net positive for the world. Who cares if he just does videos like this for views? He's literally helping people walk, I don't think these people care what his intentions were," @AwsumAwstun acknowledged Donaldson for his positive initiative.
"Outrageous isn't it. Thanks for giving this coverage. Healthcare insurance has become very corrupt," @Michael_Soria_ said.
Popular tech YouTuber Zack Nelson (JerryRigEverything) also reacted positively, as he mentioned his "Not A Wheelchair" business aimed at making wheelchairs more accessible for those in need,
"I built a wheelchair factory for this same reason. 🤷♂️ nobody else is doing it. Not even Uncle Sam."
At the time of the writing, Jimmy Donaldson's latest video has amassed over 31 million views within two days of its upload. Meanwhile, his X post has garnered more than 16 million impressions.
