Netflix has officially announced that an upcoming holiday special, A Nonsense Christmas, featuring Espresso singer Sabrina Carpenter, is imminent. The variety show will air on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 9 p.m. EST/ 6 p.m. PST, on Netflix. Fans can expect a festive evening complete with musical performances, comedic sketches, guest appearances, and surprise duets.
Carpenter will also deliver renditions of popular holiday special EP, Fruitcake, among other chart-toppers, Netflix has announced. A Nonsense Christmas is produced by the singer herself under her At Last Productions banner, as well as OBB Pictures, comprising Michael D. Ratner, Scott Ratner, Simone Spira, and Kfir Goldberg via OBB Pictures.
Sabrina Carpenter reveals that the show is going to be "uniquely her"
Netflix gave fans a sneak peek on social media of the singer, clad in a shiny red bodysuit and thigh-high black boots. She completed her outfit with furry white cuffs, for what looks like Christmas galore. "Expecting someone else?" she asks in the video. The video was captioned, "This is really gonna jingle your bells."
Sabrina Carpenter told the outlet on September 20, 2024:
“The holidays have always been so special to me. I am excited to bring my take to a classic holiday variety show — infusing my love of music and comedy to make something that is uniquely me.”
The executive producer and founder/CEO of OBB Media, Michael D. Ratner, chimed in on the imminent project too, noting:
“Sabrina’s vision to subvert the classic holiday special has been clear since day one. Sabrina Carpenter and Christina Aguilera set to collaborate for a special episode on Spotify Anniversaries
Sabrina Carpenter also teased her fans with a new collaboration with Christina Aguilera in a TikTok video that came out on Wednesday. The young singer will be joining her senior to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her eponymous debut album that will come out on Spotify Anniversaries.
In August 2024, the singer told Paper Magazine that she was a longtime fan of Aguilera. She revealed that she was one of her "very first idols and icons.” She said:
"I was 11 years old and you couldn’t get her name out of my mouth. She’s very special to me. Those songs raised me.”
Sabrina Carpenter has been making strides in her career this year, and the latest announcement is just the cherry on top. Her Short 'N Sweet album earned No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 200, and so did her single, Please Please Please. Her last single, Taste, peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at the time of writing, holds No. 6.
