A new BTS look by James Gunn gives a closer look at the details of the Superman suit 

As James Gunn's Superman nears its release date, the studio has continued to drop significant details on the highly anticipated upcoming movie. A close-up shot of Superman's shoes was shared by James Gunn in a photo, giving fans a better look at the Man of Steel's suit.

The director captioned the photo referring to a year back when it was taken in Svalbard. The photo shows Superman standing in the snow with his red boots on.

Superman's long, flowing red cape, red boots, and red trunks complete his blue outfit that has inspired generations of Halloween costumes. A highly stylized Superman emblem, which consists of a giant red letter "S" engraved within a yellow shield with a red border, is branded on his chest, while a yellow belt encircles his waist. He completes the look with red boots.

Superman's suit is one of the most powerful aspects of the hero. The suit has different properties and is made of varied materials across different universes. In Earth Two, Superman made the suit himself with an indestructible fabric, in Earth One, the fabric is made of Kryptonian by Martha Kent and cannot be torn, stained, cut, or burned under the Earth's sun. On Prime Earth, his suit is made of Kryptonian battle armor but on New Earth, his suit is made of ordinary Terran fabric.

Superman will be the first live-action film created specifically for the new DCU. Along with Superman, the movie will feature the debut appearances of Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, Metamorpho, Guy Gardner, the Engineer, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Perry White, Cat Grant, Steve Lombard, Lex Luthor, Eve Teschmacher, and Krypto the Superdog. The film is said to be Supergirl's debut appearance as well, who will soon be getting her film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Superman stars David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

It also stars Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Christopher MacDonald as Ron Troupe, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner.

Superman will be James Gunn's first project in the DC universe as he readies up for the future's promising projects with the studio. The film will explore Superman's origin story and will focus on Clark Kent, his alter ego as well.

As of now, James Gunn has updated fans that he is reshooting parts of the film after receiving reviews from screenings. Talking about it at a press event, the director said,

"We’ve done screenings, we’ve done real screenings. Definitely learning stuff all the time, definitely editing and making little changes. You know, we might shoot a couple little, tiny things."

He later added,

"All my additional photography is so hard, because it’s like, I used to be kind of against it. Because, you know, you don’t want to have to shoot again. It’s a pain in the ass. But as time has gone on, and I’ve made more movies, I really like being able to say, 'You know what? I wish I had a shot that fist hitting that…' And so I do tend to go back and pick that kind of stuff up. So it wouldn’t be anything major, but those kinds of things."

Superman is set to release on 11 July 2025.
