Sheryl Crow is decrying Elon Musk and his car brand, in the wake of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) slashing federal agencies.
The singer took to Instagram on Friday to reveal that she would be selling her Tesla and bequeathing the money to NPR, which has been under attack as of late by President Trump. In the video she uploaded, she can be seen smiling and waving her car off as it was being hauled away.
Netizens have since begun reacting to the news with love and appreciation, with some adding that they have been long-time fans of the multi-Grammy-winning singer for this very reason: Her personality. Check out what one fan said, for example:
"I’ve always loved her i knew it was for good reason."
The comments didn't end there, as seemingly everyone in the comments section echoed the sentiments. However, a few did claim that Sheryl Crow was just doing it as a performative stunt:
"She is so out of touch. most people can't just give away their autos to make a point," someone stated.
"This is purely performative. She spends more time making sure she is being filmed," someone else claimed.
"Wow, what a statement! Stay strong, whoever she is…." one well-wisher noted.
"Now I know what true courage looks like," another noted.
Even more chimed in to share their opinions and join the ongoing discourse:
"Wow. So stunning and brave," someone stated.
"Not all heroes wear capes," one more opined.
"Good let the Hollywood stars pay for the wasteful spending. No lost to Tesla," another chimed in.
While several users did laud Sheryl Crow for her gesture, some did point out that she could have done it without having it filmed.

In her Instagram post, Sheryl Crow penned:
“My parents always said... you are who you hang out with. There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with. So long Tesla. Money donated to NPR, which is under threat by President Musk, in hopes that the truth will continue to find its way to those willing to know the truth. #PresidentMusk #PresidentTrump #Call1-202-224-3141 #ProtectTheConstitution.”
Since commencing his second term in office, Trump has been doubling down on the attacks against news organizations he doesn't see eye-to-eye with. More recently, his criticism has been aimed at PBS and NPR, The Hollywood Reporter has stated.
Variety has reported that just earlier this week, Musk, who is unofficially heading DOGE, spearheaded the elimination of hundreds, if not thousands of federal government jobs, alongside cutting back on several agencies and services.
