So let us find out all the details that we have about this film.
WB working on remaking 1992's The Bodyguard
Deadline has reported that Warner Bros. is planning to create a remake of the 1992 romance thriller, The Bodyguard which starred Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston. Sam Wrench, who directed the 2023 concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, has been roped in as the director. The script will be written by Jonathan A. Abrams who earlier wrote Juror No. 2. This news was revealed after the outlet interviewed WB executives Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca.
The Bodyguard was directed by Mick Jackson, while Lawrence Kasdan was the writer. It followed the story of a popular singer-actress, Rachel Marron, being stalked by a person. She then enrolls a secret service agent turned bodyguard for her security.
Here's the official synopsis:
"A former Secret Service agent grudgingly takes an assignment to protect a pop idol who’s threatened by a crazed fan. At first, the safety-obsessed bodyguard and the self-indulgent diva totally clash. But before long, all that tension sparks fireworks of another sort, and the love-averse tough guy is torn between duty and romance."
Kasdan also produced the film with Kevin Costner and Jim Wilson. The film became a commercial success. Houston also released a namesake album to promote the film, which sold more than 50 million copies and became a bestseller. It also earned her a Grammy Award in 1994.
The upcoming remake might also star an actual pop artist. Since Wrench has also worked with Swift, there can be a slim chance of her bagging the lead role. Fans will have to wait for a while till Warner Bros. reveal major details about this remake.
