The Weeknd performed at Spotify's Billions Club Live in Los Angeles, California on December 17, 2024. During the performance, the singer teased his 2025 plans, stating to his fans:

"2024 is almost done but 2025 we've got some new sh*t coming up. New album, new tour, new movie, new everything. We're shutting this sh*t down."

Subsequently, the singer made the same announcement to the wider public with an X-page post on December 19, 2024:

The new announcement comes a year after the singer, born Abel Tesfaye, announced plans to retire The Weeknd pseudonym during an interview with W magazine on May 8, 2023:

"The visuals are vital to my career. The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd. This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say..But I did panic when I lost my voice. I had to rest and reflect and think about The Weeknd and Tedros and all that had happened with the show."

The Weeknd is set to release a new album Hurry Up Tomorrow soon

The singer is set to release his new album Hurry Up Tomorrow on January 24, 2025. The singer talked about his new album in an exclusive interview with Billboard magazine on September 6, 2024:

"There is always pressure to surpass my last project. Growth is important. Sometimes it may not be what people want to hear from me at the moment, but, when the body of work is complete, I hope they can appreciate what I have been trying to achieve. I have been working on this discography for a long time. It was all planned"

The singer continued:

"I always try to achieve something that I haven’t done before musically. Sometimes it may not be clear on the first listen [to the album], but fans seem to figure it out over time. The only pressure for me is to be better than the older version of myself, focusing on growth, achieving my own goals, not other people’s"

Alongside the new album, the singer is set to release a new film, also named Hurry Up Tomorrow. The film is set to feature The Weeknd aka Abel Tesfaye, as well as Jenna Ortega, Barry Keoghan, Gabby Barrett, and Charli D'Amelio.

The film is directed by Trey Edward Shults based on a script by himself, Abel Tesfaye as well as Reza Fahim. The film is being produced by Manic Phase and Live Nation and is currently set to distributed by Lionsgate.

Other important personnel involved in the film include cinematographer Chayse Irvin, composer Daniel Lopatin, and Kevin Turen, among others. The reported budget for the upcoming film is 20 million dollars, and the film is currently in post-production.

The singer's first feature film, the project will be his second major visual production, after the series The Idol with Lily Rose Depp. The singer also has had cameo appearances in the works Michael Jackson's Journey from Motown to Off the Wall and Uncut Gems.

The singer has also been featured in the concert film The Show, which detailed the 2019 Super Bowl Halftime show in Florida. The Weeknd released his latest studio album, Dawn FM, on January 7, 2022. The album was the fifth studio album of his career.
