Okay, let’s be real — superheroes kind of run the world now. Whether you grew up reading comics or just got dragged into the madness because of a friend (or a million trailers), it’s hard not to love them a little. The powers, the suits, the drama... It’s all just so good.
With National Superhero Day here, it’s honestly the perfect excuse to get even more excited about all the new superhero movies that are about to hit theaters. And trust me, there’s a lot coming. Some sequels we’ve been waiting forever for, and some brand-new stories that honestly look way cooler than we expected.
Even if you’re not the biggest superhero nerd (no judgment), chances are at least one of these movies is gonna sneak into your watchlist. Because let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good, chaotic, save-the-world kind of story every once in a while? So get ready to clear your weekend plans this year— here are five superhero movies flying into theaters really soon. And honestly? They all sound pretty awesome.
Thunderbolts
With less than a week to go, Marvel is returning with its full glory with a team of anti-heroes (just as good as superheroes, we hope) who will be returning on screens with thrilling action, messy team dynamics, and all the chaos we’ve been waiting for. Thunderbolts promises a wild ride, packed with familiar faces and some unexpected twists that could shake up the MCU in ways we haven't seen before. The trailers already look pretty exciting, and the dark visuals and stunning action scenes just make you reminisce about the old and golden Marvel days.
Led by fan-favorites like Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, and Red Guardian, this squad is definitely not your typical group of heroes — and honestly, that’s what makes it even more exciting. The film will be the last project under Marvel's fifth phase and will most likely lay down the foundation for its next Avengers film, Avengers: Doomsday (more on that later).
Cast: Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Release Date: 2 May 2025.
Superman
After successfully working for Marvel on several films, James Gunn is all set to switch things up by joining the DCEU. The director is kicking off his reign at the studio with his version of Superman, which is quite possibly the most anticipated film from DC in recent years.
David Corenswet will be wearing the red cape this time, along with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Everything we know about the film has given fans promising expectations, and knowing Gunn, he would most probably deliver!
Unlike other films of DC, Gunn's Superman will not focus on Kent's history or origins. Rather, it would explore how he goes about his general life while managing his identity as one of Earth's biggest heroes.
Previously, Gunn told The Wrap in December 2024,
"We just start in the middle of the action. Superman's already existing. Lois and Clark already know each other. Lex hates Superman's guts from the beginning, although they don't know each other personally."
Cast: David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced.
Release Date: July 11, 2025
Fantastic Four: First Steps
Marvel's First Family is all set to take up your screens as the newest members of the Fantastic Four are bringing the iconic family back to life. Led by Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and The Thing, the film will see the team facing off against quite a few adversaries, including the giant Galactus and Silver Surfer.
Director Matt Shakman has previously disclosed that the film will not be related to any other franchises or superheroes, although the four heroes will go on to star in Marvel's next big thing, Avengers: Doomsday. Set against a retro futuristic backdrop, Pedro Pascal is shining bright as Mr Fantastic in a role that has been owned by many stars in the past. It would certainly be interesting to see what the franchise's newest members bring to screens!
Cast: Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the titular team, alongside Ralph Ineson, Julia Garner, Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles.
Release Date: July 25, 2025
Avengers: Doomsday
Perhaps Marvel's biggest project yet after the massive success of the Infinity Saga, Avengers: Doomsday is bringing back some of the biggest Marvel stars across the franchise for this one, that will see four of the biggest teams in Marvel- the (remaining) Avengers, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and the Thunderbolts* against Doctor Doom, for who Marvel is bringing back Robert Downey Jr.
Plot details about the film are not known yet, as it is still under production. But most likely, the events of Thunderbolts* and Fantastic Four: First Steps will lay down a few bricks for Doomsday to move forward, which is both exciting and just a little terrifying (in the best way possible).
Cast: (Announced so far) Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Chris Hemsworth, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Alan Cumming, Hannah John-Kamen, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, and Robert Downey Jr.
Release Date: 1 May 2026
Spider-Man: Brand New Day
The biggest superhero across the world is all ready to land on your screens once again with the release of Tom Holland's fourth solo as Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Plot details of the film are not known as of yet, but we do know that Sadie Sink will be a fresh addition to the series, and even though there has been no news now on who she would play, we can make a few guesses.
The film will begin shooting this summer, and more details can be expected soon.
Cast: (Announced so far) Tom Holland and Sadie Sink
Release Date: July 31, 2026
