Mufasa: The Lion King doesn't just introduce Taka, who we have known as Scar over the years, but new music too. Lebo M, who was a part of Elton John's Circle of Life in 1994, found it difficult to bring a worthy successor to life. But he did manage it and we got Ngomso in the film's opening sequence.
The soundtrack album made by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Lebo M stretches for 16 minutes and 21 seconds and includes languages like Swahili, Xhosa, and Zulu other than English. The film's score is given by Dave Metzger which stretches to 50 minutes and 52 seconds.
While Lin-Manuel Miranda, Lebo M, and Dave Metzger were core to Mufasa: The Lion King's music, there were some big names like Hans Zimmer, who performed and made it better. Mads Mikkelson, who plays Kiros in the film, was a part of one song too.
All the Mufasa: The Lion King songs in one place
Ngomso
The worthy successor we mentioned above is the opening song. Lebo M just arrived in the studio and just ended up writing it one morning. Lin-Manuel Miranda has said that he wouldn't have done the work properly if it wasn't for Lebo M's support. He is the reason the new film's music still feels like something straight out of the original.
Milele
That song holds great significance to the film, given that Milele is also a mythical place that characters in the film believe exists. That place eventually becomes the Pride Lands, given that Milele has a deeper meaning. We see Mufasa's parents singing it before he splits with them.
I Always Wanted A Brother
I Always Wanted A Brother is one of the most heartwarming songs the fans will find in there. This plays as a montage as young versions of Mufasa and Taka grow into more mature lions in the film.
Bye Bye
If you think Mads Mikkelsen is just an actor, listen to this song from Mufasa: The Lion King to know that this man wears one more hat. Miranda found a clip of twenty-something Mikkelson singing in one musical called The Pajama Game and decided he needed to sing here.
We Go Together
The fifth song in Mufasa: The Lion King begins the friendship of Mufasa and Taka with their new companions while they are running away from the Outsiders. By the end, we come to know about Taka's feelings towards Sarabi.
Tell Me It's You
Tell Me It's You is to Mufasa: The Lion King as Can You Feel the Love Tonight is to The Lion King. Though the former is considered a spiritual successor to the latter, Miranda pulled the song's inspiration from Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson's Beauty and the Beast.
Brother Betrayed
Finally, the song where we see Taka becoming Scar. Miranda told Variety that the last song was the fastest he had written for the movie. He defined it as something like
"The “Phantom of the Opera” end of Act 1 moment."
