The Electric State's plot and the actors who voiced characters like Cosmo, Herman, Popfly, and more are things we can revisit over and over again. Oh no, we were talking about the novel. The film adaptation was just a waste of $320 million, critics said.
There's much to talk about in the Russo Brothers' film, though that won't be in a positive light. The film has gotten enough criticism already, so we will avoid that. But the robots were fun to see in it, especially when some impressive actors were behind it. So we will discuss the voice behind Mr. Peanut, who is, according to Joe Russo, the 'Jimmy Carter' of the robot uprising.
He is charming in his own way, a gentleman with a bolted hat, and a pivotal bot leader. But that charm came from Woody Harrelson's voice. He is one electric state-of-the-art in there. Recently, he was seen overseeing a rescue operation in Last Breath (2025). From Haymitch Abernathy in The Hunger Games to Colonel J. Wesley McCullough, he appears to be all in for these leader-like roles.
Why is Mr. Peanut so important in The Electric State?
For starters, he is the only gentle bot among all the bots, gentlemen. As Joe Russo describes him,
"The most well-spoken and thoughtful of the robots is a peanut with a cane and a top hat."
Humans would say, 'That's nuts,' as even they can struggle to find such a fellow in real life. The gentle-bot signed a Treaty of Surrender with President Clinton in The Electric State's alternate timeline. Though he appeared a bit sad in that scene as a smiling Ethan Skate, whom Stanley Tucci portrays, shook hands with the president.
While originally a mascot for Planters, an American snack food company, he is a revolutionary robot leader in this timeline. Here, robots and humans live on the same planet, but the former are sent to an exclusion zone after they lost the war.
You can say he was like a voice of all these sentient robots who want an equal position among the humans. Yes, he is like the Nelson Mandela of the post-robot war in The Electric State.
Anyway, here's one shocker: he was never in the original story written by Simon Stalenhag. That's probably a collaborative effort by the Planters. The Electric State might be one of the worst movies to have arrived this year, but it was one of the biggest streaming debuts, as it garnered over 25 million views in the first three days. Let's just say that Planters got some healthy recognition with this.
Whom Woody Harrelson has voiced before The Electric State
Since he appeared in Harper Valley PTA (1978) as an extra, we have seen the blue-eyed actor mostly in the flesh. But his voice does have some wonder; maybe that is why he has been picked many times before for voice roles.
Before The Electric State, Woody Harrelson had appeared in seven voice roles, with the most recent being his portrayal of Carnage in Venom: The Last Dance. On a couple of occasions, in documentaries to be precise, he has been a narrator, too, in Grass (1999) and Ethos (2011).
Other than that, he has voiced Freewheelin' Franklin Freek from The Freak Brothers (2020), Jake in Free Birds (2013), and Roy Arnie in Free Jimmy (2006). His voice is great, certainly, but try that with his live-action roles; start with Zombieland, in case you are wondering; you'll realize the importance of Twinkies in life; never miss a chance to eat one.
