Mountainhead teaser trailer showcases a billionaire summit
On April 22, 2025, the official teaser trailer of Mountainhead was released. The one-minute-and-34-second long video introduces us to a rich businessman named Randall (played by Steve Carell) who is a part of a billionaire summit.
It begins with four billionaires congregating at a place called Mountainhead. We then see one billionaire confronting another and calling his platform 'racist and sh*tty.'
We realize that the meetup is happening at the time of a major financial crisis and ongoing conflict around the world. At one point, the President of the United States wants to speak to them. Amid all the problems, we realize how disconnected these billionaires are from the world's problems and the problems they are a part of.
Mountainhead is a television film, and it will be released on HBO as well as Max on May 31, 2025. Jesse Armstrong is the writer-director. He has also executive-produced it with Jill Footlick, Frank Rich, Jon Brown, Will Tracy, Mark Mylod, Lucy Prebble, and Tony Roche.
This film seems like a proper follow-up to Armstrong's previous work, Succession, which concluded in 2023. The series enjoyed critical acclaim, winning 19 Primetime Emmy Awards and 75 nominations. The film's production reportedly started in March 2024 in Park City, Utah, and concluded in early April. The cast members of the film include,
- Steve Carell as Randall
- Cory Michael Smith as Venis
- Jason Schwartzman as Hugo Van Yalk
- Ramy Youssef as Jeff
- Ali Kinkade as Berry
- David W. Thompson as Leo
- Hadley Robinson as Hester
- Andy Daly as Casper
- Daniel Oreskes as Dr. Phipps
- Amie MacKenzie as Janine
- Ava Kostia as Paula
Ramy Youssef, who is one of the stars in the film, gave an interview to Variety where he compared the film's humor to Succession's. He said:
“‘Succession’ is one of the best comedies ever made — and this film is certainly funny in the same way. Jesse’s writing is on another level. It’s really hard to find something of that caliber, so getting to do it was such a joy.”
The actor did not reveal which real-life billionaire inspired his character in the film:
“I’ll just say I looked at them all. They all have certain things in common.”
Carell, who has made his career out of starring in comedies, is playing another billionaire. The film marks his first collaboration with Armstrong.
