The joke's origin lies in the rhetoric by JD Vance, a prime Republican campaign personnel, who first referenced 'childless cat lady' during his Vice President nomination run in 2018. He made the remarks alleging that the country was being run by Democrats and:

Taylor Swift recently repurposed the rhetoric to endorse the Democratic Party nominee, Kamala Harris. The Lover hitmaker announced her stance in an Instagram post, saying:
