Caracappa and Louis Eppolito used to serve at the NYPD, and while they worked as cops, they were engaged in several criminal activities due to their association with the mafia.

Louis Eppolito had written about his experiences of being forced into partaking in criminal activities by the gangster in his 1992 book 'Mafia Cop: The Story of an Honest Cop Whose Family Was the Mob.'

However, in 2006, the duo was sentenced, followed by being condemned to life in prison in the year 2009. Stephen Caracappa passed away in 2017, and Louis Eppolito passed away two years after Caracappa's death, as he breathed his last in 2019.
