If I Had Legs I'd Kick You is one of the standout feature films from this year's Sundance Film Festival. The film, starring Rose Byrne in the leading role, premiered at the Utah-based film festival and received major acclaim. This gut-wrenching drama about motherhood was praised for its genre-defying nature and Byrne's riveting performance. As a result, it must have caught the attention of indie film lovers, who look out for similar breakout festival releases. Conan O'Brien, who stars in a key supporting role, has a hopeful update for them.

"I've heard that it may come out in the fall, but I am not the one to ask because, again, I am a part of the film. But really, that film is a testament to two amazing women. Rose Byrne did an incredible job, she's really the focus of the film. I have a part to play in the film, and Mary Bronstein is the writer/director. So, these two women made this incredible film, and I get to be a part of it, which is an honor, but I can't wait till people get to see it, because I'm very proud of them. I'll say that."

O'Brien told Screerant during his appearance at the SXSW festival. He was a part of the festival's Claiming the Future of Entertainment panel in Austin, Texas.

If I Had Legs I'd Kick You: Conan O'Brien reveals a possible release date for this Sundance hit

If I Had Legs I'd Kick You debuted at the 2025 Sundance shortly before its Berlinale premiere. It marked writer-director Mary Bronstein's sophomore feature; she previously helmed Yeast, a mumblecore film starring Greta Gerwig. Her latest film received glowing reviews during both festivals, especially for Rose Byrne's leading performance.

Byrne plays Linda, a single mother who gets increasingly anxious as she navigates her life amid a series of inescapable problems. Despite its heavy themes, the film is reportedly a deeply tense affair. Conan O'Brien plays Linda's therapist with a hostile relationship with her.

After the premiere, If I Had Legs I'd Kick You was soon picked up by A24 for further distribution. However, there were no updates as to when it will be out in theaters. O'Brien's recent comments reveal that the film might be out in the fall.

Later, If I Had Legs I'd Kick You will most likely be available on Max, considering A24's deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. However, A24 has not officially confirmed any specific release details as of yet.

Conan O'Brien, who recently hosted the Oscars 2025 ceremony, is beloved for his talk show hosting. He currently continues his brand of comedy through a Team Coco podcast titled Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend and his Max series, Conan O'Brien Must Go.

Although popular for this hosting career, he has had a fair share of acting experience, having made cameo appearances in shows like 30 Rock, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Silicon Valley. However, he has mainly played a version of himself in these projects.

If I Had Legs I'd Kick You shows him venturing into the acting world in what appears to be a meatier role. It marks a professional transition for the comedian, who has mainly written for or acted in comedic projects. So, while speaking with the Associated Press during the Sundance premiere, he reflected on his acting stint.

"It [acting] is a very different game and I have way too much respect for real actors to pretend that it's simple. I credit [writer-director] Mary Bronstein...she worked with me repeatedly. She kept coming out to L.A. She would sit with me, and talk to me about the character. I like to be prepared and Mary took that to the next level."
