Channing Tatum recently reprised his role as X-men's Gambit, appearing alongside the Merc with a Mouth in Marvel's Deadpool & Wolverine. That could be the last time we might be seeing the actor if recent leaks from industry scooper Daniel Richtman are anything to go by. According to him, the studio is casting actors for the role.

A solo movie featuring the character where Channing Tatum would be the lead was announced in 2014, but that succumbed to development hell. Now that the rumors for the character appearing in the future are picking up, we may see him join the new mutant team, though we don't know who ends up landing the role.

Marvel is reportedly seeking actors to play Gambit and Kitty Pryde

What Daniel Richtman said doesn't really hint at a solo Gambit movie but more like a team. He writes,

"According to a recent casting grid Kitty [Pryde] and Gambit will be on the team for the reboot."

Everything changed in 2019 as Disney acquired Fox, which also opened the gates for the mutants to enter the MCU. Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) was one recent example, as Disney is serious about bringing new stories of these characters. And Multiverse is serving as one strong foundation for these stories to build upon.

As for the actors, if Channing Tatum is already out of the game, then Marvel might be seeking younger faces in the future. Other than Tatum, Taylor Kitsch has appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009).

Tatum would've gotten his solo Gambit movie, which Rupert Wyatt had signed to direct initially but left following other commitments. Fox sought this replacement, and they considered Doug Liman or Gore Verbinski to sit on the director's chair. None of that worked out. The film remained unproduced, and it would be a shot in the dark if we speculate that the concept will flesh out in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

For Kitty Pryde, a number of actresses have appeared in X-Men films. Sumela Kay played it first in 2000, and later, Katie Stuart portrayed a younger version of the character in 2003. The character finally made it to the core team X-Men: The Last Stand, where Ellen Page filled the mutant's shoes.

Like Gambit, a Kitty Pryde movie got canceled too, but it wasn't owing to the development hell but Disney's acquisition. The New Mutants (2020) became the last film in the franchise, and Fox called it a day.
