Mariah Carey released her latest studio album back in 2018

Mariah Carey released her last studio album back in 2018. Titled Caution, the fifteenth studio album was released through Epic Records on November 16, 2018. Since then, Mariah Carey has released several singles, including Save the Day feat Lauryn Hill, Fall in Love at Christmas feat Khaled and Kirk Franklin, and her collaboration with Ariana Grande, Yes, And?.

The singer talked about her music in an exclusive interview with Vanity Fair on September 23, 2024, stating in response to the question of whether she was trying to follow in someone's footsteps when she started as a singer:

"I was definitely not trying to follow in anyone’s footsteps. It was always something that was near and dear to me, writing songs and singing the ones I wrote. I wrote for my friend Trey Lorenz; he made an album, and he and I wrote some songs together. But it was really just about my own self-expression, you know?"

she later added:

"It started when I was in seventh grade. I just started writing, and I think I always thought that every singer writes their own songs. Like, of course they do! But they don’t. But I continue writing to this day. I just have an idea and kind of broaden it from where it starts out. And if I’m writing with someone else, that can be fun...."

Earlier in a Pitchfork exclusive interview published on November 28, 2018, the singer talked about the process behind her songwriting, stating:

"I don’t know how to define that. I’ve recently started being like, “Oh, I guess that’s very me to do that part right there.” It’ll be a la-la-la or a shoo-do-do or a da-da-da-da-da. I don’t do it to try and sound like a Mariah song, and I love to collaborate with people, but in the rare instances when I’ve done other people’s songs, I haven’t liked it."

She continued:

"There was a Disney song I did five, six years ago called “Almost Home,” and I never really liked it. No offense to whoever wrote it, and I did it because Disney wanted me to do it, but it didn’t feel like me at all."

Mariah Carey is best known for her album, Daydream, released on September 26, 1995. The album is Mariah Carey's fifth studio album and was her second diamond-certified record after 1993's Music Box. Daydream remains her last diamond-certified record as of the writing of this article.
