Spoilers ahead.

Love Hurts has Alvin 'Knuckles' Gable the mob boss as the main antagonist. Knuckles kidnaps Rose, and reveals to his brother Marvin that he has also murdered the latter's boss in the real estate business, Cliff. The two brothers get into a scuffle, and Marvin manages to overcome Knuckles. Towards the end, we see Knuckles being taken out by the Russians who might end up killing him, but it is not revealed.

Earlier, Rose had gone into hiding after some people from The Company decided to frame her, which led Knuckles to go after her. After he is dealt with by the Russians, Rose decides to come out of hiding. She and Marvin officially begin their relationship. The ending hints that the two will continue their relationship as Knuckles is not around to bother them.

However, because of several events that unfold in the film, it would be hard for Marvin to continue as a realtor. The couple might move to a different location with the money they have. Despite his back story, Marvin is a changed person and has reunited with the love of his life.

Love Hurts stars Ke Huy Quan, Ariana DeBose, Daniel Wu, Marshawn Lynch, and Mustafa Shakir among others. Other cast members include:

  • Lio Tipton as Ashley
  • Drew Scott as Jeff Zaks
  • Sean Astin as Cliff Cussick
  • Rhys Darby as Kippy Betts
  • André Eriksen as Otis
  • Cam Gigandet as Renny Merlow

In an interview with NBC, the film's director Jonathan Eusebio spoke about the film's ending, and if there is the possibility of a sequel:

"I just wanted to make it open-ended and have people feel their own endings for each character. And I think we did it. As long as you feel like you leave the audience wanting more, or wanting to see more of them, that helps the sequel, maybe?"

Eusebio also revealed that he retained almost everything they had shot for the film. He said:

"I wanted to keep everything that I shot. A lot of things come out in post. I'm an action person. I love choreography and action design and things like that. So, if I can make the action scenes bigger, I would — in a heartbeat — keep those. But there's a fine balance between that and having a story and characters that people relate to. So that's always the hardest thing for me, is how you balance that with the emotional, right? It's just finding that balance."
