Lizzo, who has been vocal about her experience on TikTok, recently shared a post on social media, reacting to its ban.
The social media app voluntarily shut down its services in the U.S. on January 19, 2025. The ban followed a Supreme Court ruling that upheld a law mandating TikTok to break off its ties with its Chinese parent company, Byte Dance.
According to the reports, when users opened the TikTok app around 10:35 pm ET, they were greeted with a message, which read:
"Sorry, TikTok isn't available right now. A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can't use TikTok for now."
The message further added that President Donald Trump has promised, “that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned!”
Reacting to the news, Lizzo took to her social media accounts to share the news with her fans. She captioned the post, “They really took her… MY SHAYLA.”
According to a 2022 report in Variety, Lizzo had 26 million TikTok followers and earned the title of the No. 1 music artist on TikTok that year. Additionally, Drew Barrymore and Lupita Nyong were also named among the “top 10 U.S. “breakthrough” creators on TikTok.”
Fans gave mixed reactions to Lizzo's social media post, as they shared their views on the sudden ban announced by TikTok.

Lizzo bid a dramatic farewell to her TikTok account in a social media post following the ban. While some fans on the internet called Lizzo dramatic, others sided with her on her reaction to TikTok’s ban on January 19, 2025.

“Wdc about her, she should be looking for a job instead now that her music career ended,” a user wrote.
“She thinks she’s one of us i’m cryinnnn,” one person joked.
"So dramatic," a user mentioned.
While some users pointed out a huge mistake in Lizzo's social media post, as she wrote “January 2024” instead of “2025,” mentioning that is a huge embarrassment for her fans.
“Bro got the year wrong”, a person stated.
“she got the year wrong id be so embarrassed,” another added.
“January 2024… cmon now Lizzo,” a user commented.

According to the reports, TikTok has been removed from Apple and Google Play app stores, as directed by the law under the Supreme Court. It also indicated that web-hosting firms, which include TikTok’s back-end Cloud provider, Oracle, should stop supporting the app or they would face penalties amounting to billions of dollars.
Donald Trump had earlier promised to “save” the app and said that he is considering a 90-day extension of the deadline before the ban comes into practice.
“I think that would be, certainly, an option that we look at. The 90-day extension is something that will be most likely done, because it’s appropriate. You know, it’s appropriate. We have to look at it carefully. It’s a very big situation,” Trump said in the phone interview, per a report in NBC News. “If I decide to do that, I’ll probably announce it on Monday,” he added.
Reportedly, TikTok had 170 million users in the U.S. As of now, it is uncertain whether the social media app will resume its services for the users.
