It has been a rocky road for Snow White ever since the controversies started raging, and the direct consequence is already reflecting on the dismal box office numbers of the Disney classic.

Now following the unexpected hit at the film's performance, Disney is reconsidering another live-action remake, Tangled, which reportedly has been in works with director Michael Gracey(who recently worked in Better Man) alongside screenwriter Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.

The sudden halt on the project has garnered quite some social media attention, and it is being speculated that the decision has come from top management following Snow White's disastrous landing in Hollywood. In contrast to the latest release, back in the day, a few of Disney's live-action remakes did well with the numbers, namely, The Lion King & Beauty And The Beast.

Tangled was released back in 2010, and it is a loose adaptation a German folklore named Rapunzel authored by Brothers Grimm.

Disney classic Tangled's live-action reimagination gets paused

The live-action adaptation strategy of Walt Disney has given the studio a mixture of results, with some being one of the biggest hits and some hitting rock bottom (for instance, Snow White). Another recent release, Mufasa: The Lion King, reportedly did not do well in the opening weekends but later picked up the pace, grossing $718 million worldwide.

Following such big numbers at the global box office, Disney classic Snow White's failure comes with a big surprise. With controversies surrounding creative approach, changes in the main story, casting and social media posts shared by lead star Rachel Zegler, Snow White's box-office performance has suffered a major blow.

According to THR, against a massive budget amounting to $270 million, the film has only bagged $145 million so far on a global scale ($69 million on a domestic scale). As a result of such a mishap and the rising amount of controversies, strategies are now being reportedly reconsidered, and Tangled has been put on a pause.

There have also been reports, per The Hollywood Reporter, that several executives on the project (mostly the one behind the live-action strategies) have departed, and the future of the Tangled movie hangs in the loose. Though there has been no official statement from any creative team members, it seems quite evident that Snow White's failure is a major contributor to such a big decision.

On the contrary, Moana 2 did well at the box office last year, bagging around $1 billion, thereby setting a new milestone for upcoming Disney movies. Now, another Moana live-action reimagination is being eyed for a July 2026 premiere. And viewers are hopeful of something good to come, given the fact that the story is being inspired by a classic hit, which already has a neat 1.4 billion watch hours on Disney's streaming charts.

Though Snow White is the talk of the town, many other Disney projects are going steady and bringing in good results. So, whether the postponing of Tangled has other strategic rethinking at its core (due to the recent ups and downs), only time will tell.
