How did the LEGO Nightmare Before Christmas set come into existence

The Nightmare Before Christmas set first came into existence as a fan design in July 2022 when Tvrulesmylife posted it on the LEGO Ideas website. The idea proposed a set featuring over 2000 pieces and mini-figures of Jack Skellington, Sally, Dr Finkelstein, Lock, Shock, Barrel, Santa, and Jack as Sandy Claws

Tvrulesmylife's fan idea was a big hit among fans and reached the 10,000 supporter milestone by September of the same year. The milestone pushed the project toward the official Review phase, which is meant to determine if a fan idea can be turned into a safe and profitable playset.

LEGO confirmed the selection of Tvrulesmylife's Nightmare Before Christmas set for production in February 2023. While the toy brand kept the essence of the fan idea at the core, they seemingly had to scale things down for safety and pricing purposes.

The final version of the Nightmare Before Christmas set officially dropped on the LEGO and Disney web stores on September 6, 2024.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Disney stop-motion film that came out in October 1993. It was inspired by a poem written by the film's producer, Tim Burton, in 1982. The fantasy film revolves around the king of Halloween Town, Jack Skellington.

Known as the Pumpkin King, Jack is tired of the recurring Halloween celebrations every year. He then comes across Christmas Town, a place with an unfamiliar festival, and attempts to take over it along with the townsmen.
