Karate Kid: Legends is taking us back to the good old days, with Ralph Macchio returning as Danial LaRusso and Jackie Chan as Mr. Han in the upcoming crossover film. They are the only ones confirmed to be reprising their roles as they introduce a new Karate Kid.
Details on the plot are thin, but we can assume a similar format we have seen in the previous films where a karate tournament is pivotal to the franchise. With Cobra Kai came Sekai Taikai, turning things up a notch as it goes international. We may see things go international here too.
That said, it may set a stage for potential cameos from the characters who have appeared before. Though that would be better for a student-level reunion, we might have one or two characters in mind who may show up to add some salt to it.
So, who could turn up as cameo characters in Karate Kid: Legends?
There are a fair few choices, but let's start with the kids who chose to continue their training with the dojos at the end of Cobra Kai. Kenny (Dallas Dupree Young), Anthony (Griffin Santopietro), and Devon (Oona O'Brien) are at the top of the list, and they can return via an international tournament in Karate Kid: Legends.
But that doesn't mean we have to forget them all. Some of them who left for academic reasons could turn up for this one time. The film is said to be set up after three years, and Miguel (Xolo Mariduena), Sam (Mary Mouser), and Hawk (Jacob Bertrand) might be done with their education. They would sure like to live some good old days after spending fair time in universities.
Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan) and Tory (Peyton List) have gone international, too, so it would make sense if they crossed paths with the Karate Kid: Legends cast again. If we get to see Jaden Smith's Dre Parker, that would be cool, given he was trained by Mr. Han and initially based on LaRusso only.
Though it's mostly the students, we can expect antagonist-turned-supporting character Chozen (Yuji Okumoto) to give an advice or two to the new kid in Karate town. But then Sensei Wolf's (Lewis Tan) cameo would be great (please bring a Scorpion with you).
And now the (potential) legendary cameo
Accept it; you all are expecting William Zabka's Johnny Lawrence in this equation, and so are we. The last time we saw him, he was with his newfound love Carmen (Vanessa Rubio) and merged his dojo Cobra Kai with LaRusso's Miyagi-Do. Both will be loaning their students, it seems, to learn each other's secrets.
Zabka's character is in high demand for the cameo in Karate Kid: Legends. That said, we are with the fans. If he doesn't end up in the film, we're rioting! Kidding, but his mere presence will have a chance to give the movie the kind of boost even Daniel or Mr. Han can't do, and that's true.
After years of speculation that Zabka's character needed more screen time in the franchise, the creators finally decided to listen to their fans, and Cobra Kai got a green light in 2017, with the first season airing on May 2, 2018. And six seasons later, we are here in the franchise with Karate Kid: Legends, with a new protagonist, Li Fong, who is portrayed by Ben Wang.
