Julion Alvarez was unable to perform in the US for eight years due to US Treasury Department investigation
Julion Alvarez was linked to money laundering and drug trafficking by the US Treasury Department, which led to the erasure of his presence from US soil, with companies refusing to work with him and US social media accounts deleted. The investigation continued till recently, preventing him from performing in the country for eight years.
The charges were dropped in May 2022, and the singer subsequently spoke about the ordeal in a press conference, here quoted via the above mentioned Billboard article of November 11, 2024:
"In 2013, I wanted to diversify and I partnered with a real estate company to build houses. I did not know that these people were being followed by the U.S. government and for that reason I was linked to them."
The singer continued:
"Fortunately everything has been cleared up and now we will begin the process to reestablish the social networks, to be able to upload our music to platforms and give the fans what they have been asking for almost five years.”
He added:
“Personally today I am more patient and calm. We can say that there is a Julión before and another one after what happened. Now I have the strength and wisdom to have a healthy financial life and I know how to manage what I have. I have gone through many tests, many investigations and much discrimination...”
Julion Alvarez is best known for his 2022 album, De Hoy en Adelante, Que Te Vaya Bien, which won the Best Banda Album at the 2023 Latin Grammy Awards. This album is the singer's 20th studio album.
