An overview of Joeboy's career
Joeboy started his career with a series of non-album singles, starting with Realest feat Triple N in 2017. The first single was followed by the singer's second single, Fire, in 2018. This featured a collaboration with King Promise and GuiltyBeatz. Subsequently, the singer collaborated with Mr Eazi on the single Fààjí.
In 2019, the singer released his debut EP, Love & Light, on November 8, 2019. This EP featured collaborations with Mayorkun. This was followed by the release of another non-album single, Call, in 2020.
In 2021, the singer released his debut studio album, Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic, on February 3, 2021. The album featured a guest appearance by Kwesi Arthur. The album was produced by E Kelly, Tempoe, Killertunes, Bigfish, Dëra, Mex Flairz, Semzi, Type A, BeatsByKO, and M.O.G Beatz.
The singer released his second studio album, Body & Soul, on May 19, 2023. The album featured guest appearances by Kemena, Tempoe, and Ludacris as well as Odumodublvck, CKay, Bnxn, Oxlade, and Oli Ekun. The singer elaborated on the album in an exclusive interview with OkayAfrica on May 25, 2023, stating in response to the question as to why he named the album as he did:
"I can’t remember who suggested it to me, but I was about to drop the single “Body & Soul” and I was like— "that could work” — because the music on this particular album comes from a very sincere and honest place, so I could say this music comes from my body and my soul."
The singer later elaborated on the creative process behind the album:
"The album took about a year to make. I was just recording a lot of songs, and I realized that they would fit as an album. When I’m recording, I don’t like to have rules or guidelines, I like to record freely, I think that’s the best way to be creative."
The album was produced by Timmy, E Kelly, Bigfish, Tytanium, K-Note, and Dëra as well as Tempoe, Kahren, Kemena, Yung Willis, Type A, and BeatsbyKO. The album was released via Banku Music and emPawa Africa.
