Fans were buzzing with speculation that James Gunn was struggling to cast a “middle-aged” actor as Batman, causing production delays. The internet exploded with claims that these casting issues were the main roadblock. But Gunn wasn’t having it. He took to Instagram to call out the false reports, labeling them as “bullsh*t.”

The confusion began when The Brave and the Bold director, Andy Muschietti, mentioned he was taking on another project first. He commented that “The Batman project has been postponed a little bit,” sparking rumors that the movie was on hold.

Adding fuel to the fire, news surfaced about Matt Reeves’s The Batman Part II being pushed from its October 2026 release to October 2027. Many fans started assuming that Gunn was rethinking The Brave and the Bold and possibly integrating Robert Pattinson’s Batman into the larger DC Universe.

Is The Brave and the Bold delayed?

When a user on BlueSky suggested that The Brave and the Bold had been delayed, Gunn responded directly, stating,

"The Brave and the Bold has not been delayed, so I’m not sure what you are talking about."

Gunn clarified that the project couldn’t technically be delayed because production hadn’t started yet.

On another claim regarding The Batman Part II, Gunn defended director Matt Reeves, explaining that the script was in the process of being finished, not already completed, as some had misunderstood.

The DC Universe is undergoing a major transformation under James Gunn and Peter Safran. With Chapter 1, titled Gods and Monsters, the duo aims to create a unified story across movies, TV shows, and even video games.

The soft launch began with Creature Commandos, with Superman: Legacy expected to arrive in the summer of 2025. Other exciting titles like Lanterns and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow are lined up for 2026.

The Brave and the Bold will introduce a new Batman and the character of Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s son, as Robin. It’s one of the key projects in building the DCU’s shared universe.

Andy Muschietti, fresh off his work on The Flash, is set to direct the film. Despite his comment about taking on another project first, Gunn’s statement suggests no significant changes in the timeline.

James Gunn explained that Matt Reeves was truthful when he said the script for The Batman Part II was being “finished.” It simply means they were still working on it. Misinterpreting this led to unnecessary panic.

Gunn emphasized that projects like The Brave and the Bold couldn’t be delayed if they haven’t started production. His philosophy is simple: no project moves forward until the script is ready.

When the rumors started, fans feared that DC Studios might scrap The Brave and the Bold or merge it with The Batman Part II. These speculations led to a lot of uncertainty.

Thankfully, Gunn’s transparent communication has reassured fans. His updates confirm that the DCU is still on track, and excitement for upcoming projects remains high.

Some fans speculated that Robert Pattinson’s schedule, including his rumored involvement in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, was the reason for delays. Gunn shut this down, confirming that Pattinson’s commitments have no impact on the timeline.

Reeves is known for his meticulous and thoughtful filmmaking. He believes in taking the time to deliver a masterpiece instead of rushing to meet deadlines. This approach was evident in the success of the first The Batman movie, and fans can expect the same dedication for the sequel.

While fans wait for The Brave and the Bold, other DC projects are moving ahead. Gunn is busy with Superman: Legacy and other exciting developments. The goal is to build a cohesive DC Universe, with each piece fitting seamlessly into the bigger picture.
