Liam Neeson has been a part of the Star Wars universe for over two decades. As Qui-Gon Jinn, he received a lot of love and recognition. That doesn't seem surprising since he was a part of one of the biggest Hollywood franchises that has a massive fanbase. So, it is natural for these fans to expect the actors to reprise their roles.
One of them recently appeared in Andy Cohen's talk show, Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, and asked Liam Neeson,
"When you reprised your role as Qui-Gon Jinn in Obi-Wan Kenobi, do you ever think that that would happen? And are you interested in doing your own spin-offs?"
Neeson responded by saying,
"No, I'm not. There are so many spin-offs of Star Wars. It's diluting it to me. It's taken away the mystery and magic in a weird way."
However, he further spoke about how much he admires the work he has done in this universe so far.
"It was nice to do a little bit with Ewan [McGregor, who plays Obi-Wan Kenobi] after 25 years [or] 24 years. I was in the TV version and I had [only] three lines to say. That was [still] cool. I loved it. That's it [though]"
Neeson's words ring true, especially amid the overwhelming trend of projects based on an existing IP.
Star Wars has also had a flurry of new projects come out—even after the original trilogy and the three prequels. So, it leads to many iconic characters being reintroduced in different projects. They reveal more about their personalities, pasts, and philosophies. However, the more you know, the less the mystery.
For the same reason, Neeson doesn't want to reappear as the iconic Jedi master. It's not the only time the 72-year-old actor has mentioned that he does not want to play this character again.
Will Liam Neeson reprise his role as Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars? Here's what the actor said
Liam Neeson seems to be done with playing his Star Wars character. In a previous interview with Screen Rant, he said,
“I enjoyed very much being with Ewan [McGregor] and George Lucas on The Phantom Menace. We shot that 26 years ago! Would I do it again? I don’t think so. Too ******* old, ya know? I can’t see the situation, I really can’t, you know?”
In another interview, Neeson mentioned that he would return to the Star Wars universe only if it was for a film and not for a TV show.
“Oh, I think so, yeah, yeah, yeah, I think so…if it was a film. Yeah, I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to TV, I must admit. I just like the big screen, you know? Qui-Gon, I can’t believe it’s 24 years since we made ‘The Phantom Menace,’ I justcannot believe where the time has gone. It was a terrific experience, shooting that film in London.”
Does Liam Neeson star in any new movies in 2025?
