Zack Snyder is a different kind of beast in the industry. We are used to seeing brain-chomping zombies, mortal Spartans against a God-King, and whatnot when this name pops up. Last we checked, his characters were wandering the space, but now he plans to get out of the fictional sandbox, giving a go to a more grounded story.
Yes, his upcoming film won't see superheroes flying high but cops going about their daily lives, guns and stuff. The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter but details are too thin on the ground other than a few facts like his wife Deborah is a co-producer and Kurt Johnstad, who is his frequent collaborator, is co-writing it.
Despite this movie being more grounded, we should still expect those speed-ramping sequences here too. Mingling that in this one would give us a proper Max Payne-level action that the original film adaptation of the acclaimed video game failed to deliver in the first place.
So what is this Zack Snyder film like?

As we already mentioned, the details are being kept under wraps but here's how The Hollywood Reporter describes it:
"The action thriller is being described as being set in the high-stakes world of life and death and centered on an elite LAPD unit that is relentlessly confronted with the unforgiving collision of law and morality."
With this project, Zack Snyder will be, sort of, jogging his memory to the early 2000s. S.W.A.T. came out at that time. Colin Farrell, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, and more starred in it. Although Clark Johnson directed it, it was supposed to be a directorial debut for him.
Although Zack Snyder wasn't the only one, Michael Bay, Michael Mann, Joel Schumacher, and more were approached for it.
So that never came to fruition for Snyder and now that's all coming back. However, we shouldn't expect the director to make a remake of the 1975 show again. But we do know we can expect him to do something that can blow our minds as he has done in the past; we aren't talking about Rebel Moon.
So what kind of films has Zack Snyder made in the past?

This will be the first earthly outing for Zack Snyder, as he has delivered us some fantastical flicks over the years, some good, some not. Though 300 can be called a bit grounded as our spartans were really mortal beings, that was extraordinary in that film; they were against a God-King, Xerxes.
His most notable project would be Justice League, well, not the 2017 movie, which he left following personal issues. His vision for the film came to us in 2021 in the name of Zack Snyder's Justice League.
As for the zombie genre, he basically debuted with it as Dawn of the Dead was released in 2004; James Gunn wrote the screenplay for it. Most recently, we got Army of the Dead (2021) and a sequel called Army of Thieves that came in the same year; he wrote the story for the latter.
Snyder has directed a few short films too including Playground (1990), Under the Hood (2009), Snow Steam Iron (2017), and more, where many of them are associated with his feature-length projects only.
