Is Sophie Thatcher's Iris a robot in Companion? Details revealed in latest trailer

In the upcoming film, Companion, Jack Quaid, who plays Josh, is again surrounded by guts and blood, and Sophie Thatcher is playing his s*x robot, Iris. The Drew Hancock film is about how one human-like doll, who turns from a super sweet, playful toy into something of an evil being on a killing spree, much like Don Mancini's Chucky.

AI here serves as her consciousness, which takes over her, and she takes over the humans surrounding her. If fans have watched the Companion's trailer already, they might have noticed that this robot can feel, which sort of gives her an andriod-ish touch.

As per what the trailer reveals, the only thing we know about her is that Iris has a couple of moments that seem happiest and she explains them like this:

"There have been two moments in my life when I was happiest. The first was the day I met Josh. And second, the day I killed him."

This is enough to give the fans and viewers the chills and curiosity. Why would she kill him?

Sophie Thatcher's Iris is one killer robot in Companion

A killer robot and she kills it. Take it literally or figuratively, both would be true, as Sophie Tatcher's Iris kills anything that comes her way, and Sophie Thatcher is already killing in the trailer. This might be the only few instances where this technology might be praised, though that is still not the case in reality.

One cannot tell by merely looking at the trailer if she really is one robot, as it begins with her roaming a supermarket, smelling a fruit (which is oddly spine-chilling). But there is a different vibe that tells us there is something wrong with this bot. A few details available regarding the Companion's plot explain that it's Josh's fun robot.

But then, if she is just a robot, it is possible that this opening sequence is nothing more than a memory she created using the data she has fed by AI. And then we see her 'coming to her senses' when she enhances AI's capability in entirety using this device that seemingly is controlling her.

What does this robot want?

In simple terms, freedom. Interestingly, we can see her becoming more human throughout the trailer and that is likely what the whole story is about. What more a human wants than freedom? AI is already scraping data through the internet and Companion shows one possibility where a machine takes over humanity.

Though that is more of a Skynet thing we know from the Terminator series, that is very less likely a case here. But if Arnold Schwarzeneger is called Terminator, we can call Companion's Iris a 'Terminatrix', of course, for obvious reasons. Although she isn't designed for such horrible things, she is the opposite.

Out of the range of sequences presented in the trailer, there is this one instance where Iris is held in captivity on a chair. She essentially turned off (literally) at this moment and wakes up once Josh commands. The way she is scared is so human that it is scary for us as humans given that we know she is a robot.

Companion is set to be released in January 31, 2025.
