Is Neve Campbell returning for Scream 7? Details explored

Neve Campbell, one of the original faces of the Scream franchise, has been confirmed for her role as Sidney Prescott for Scream 7. The highly awaited film is set to have a release on February 27, 2026.

This film, in particular, within the franchise, marks quiet a significant change due to casting decisions and creative changes.


Neve Campbell’s return: A fan favorite revival

Neve Campbell, who had previously stepped away from the Scream franchise, missing in Scream 6 due to a salary dispute, is making a return to Scream 7. Campbell officially confirmed this on her official Instagram account saying:

“Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!! It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies. My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned. I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!!...”

Campbell’s return to Scream 7 also matches Kevin Williamson's comeback. Williamson is the original screen writer and creator of Scream. Kevin Williamson is credited to writing the scripts for Scream 1,2 & 4 while also taking over the 7th installment.

However, this would be the first time that he directs a Scream film with Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt being the writers.

Behind-the-scenes changes and cast eits

The production of Scream 7 has been drowning in controversy all over the internet due to significant changes especially within the cast.

Melissa Barrera, who starred in the 2022 rendition of Scream along with starring in Scream VI, was primarily supposed to return but was fired from the project due to her political stances and comments made on the internet.

Shortly after, Jenna Ortega, who was yet another major cast in the recent Scream films, also exited Scream 7, supposedly due to scheduling clashes with her obligations to the Wednesday series streaming on Netflix.

This left the studio with an opening to twist the storyline and bring back fan-favorite Sidney Prescott as the lead to the next Scream film.

What to expect from Scream 7

Scream 7 is set to be releasing on February 27, 2026, and it reportedly assures to carry on the legacy of the franchise with also bringing in newer elements that lead to creative decisions.

With Williamson at the forefront of directing the film, it aspires to evoke the spirit of the earlier Scream instalments with also looking at newer factors to evoke the feeling of suspense and horror.

The official plot details as off now remain under wraps. However, with Neve Campbell being in the lead and making a comeback as Sidney Prescot to the franchise, long running fans of Scream can hope for a storyline that shells out some kind of acknowledgement to the roots of the franchise while providing the signature curves and frights that Scream is widely known for.
