James Bond will likely get a TV show under Amazon Management. Speculations have surfaced since Amazon purchased Bond's production house MGM in 2022. The last James Bond project was No Time to Die which was released in 2021, before the acquisition. Since Amazon paid a whopping $8.5 billion to acquire MGM, rumors suggest that such an investment was mainly for creative control of the Bond franchise.

Earlier this year, Barbara Broccoli announced that she and her brother Michael G. Wilson were giving up their rights to the James Bond franchise. As The Wall Street Journal reports, Barbara was not happy with Amazon's creative decisions and had allegedly told her friends that executives at Amazon were ''f***ing idiots''. This in turn, allegedly had made the Amazon CEO get on the phone and say, ''I don't care what it costs, get rid of her.'' Rumors also suggest that Bezzos has paid almost a billion dollars to acquire the final rights.

All this creative control can only lead to future projects. Speculations suggest that a team is already preparing to produce the twenty-sixth Bond film. If a film is under wraps, so could be a TV show.

Who owns the James Bond Franchise now?

Anybody who is a Bond fan knows about the Broccoli family. Albert 'Cubby' Broccoli made the first Bond film in 1962 with his partner Harry Saltzman. Since then, Albert Broccoli has produced sixteen Bond films and his children Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have produced the rest. In 2024, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson were given the prestigious Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award for their long-standing commitment to cinematic excellence as the producers of the James Bond Franchise. Hence it is safe to say that the Broccoli family knows the James Bond franchise better than anyone else.

MGM (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer) and Eon Productions controlled the Bond Franchise for quite some time and then collaborated with Sony in the mid-2000s. But in 2022, Amazon acquired MGM for $8.5 billion and now MGM is Amazon MGM Studios. This gave Amazon ownership and creative control of the James Bond Franchise. According to rumors, the James Bond franchise is what Amazon was after, not MGM. Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson co-owned the franchise until recently and have sold their rights for approximately a billion dollars.

Amazon can now quite literally do anything it wants. It can make new films, TV shows, spin-offs, and even reality shows. Fans have been reluctant about Amazon taking over the Bond franchise from the beginning. They were worried Amazon wouldn't be able to preserve the essence and charm of James Bond. Irrespective of public criticism, a new Bond film is allegedly in the works.

On February 20, 2025, Jeff Bezos asked his followers on X, ''Who'd you pick as the next Bond?''

In response, most X users have suggested Henry Cavill, with one user even saying:

"This guy. Just cast him. Cast him right now and don't screw it up, and you'll make billions."

Another X user posted a picture of Cavill and said:

"There is only one."

Bezos' post isn't an official confirmation that a Bond project is on its way. But it is also not a denial either. Speculations along with such a post suggest that a new James Bond film or TV show is likely in production. His question has surely piqued the interest of several fans.

Is a new James Bond film on its way?

According to Puck, producers have been decided for the next James Bond film. If a new film is in the works, it will be the twenty-sixth Bond film and will be the first one that will not have anyone from the Broccoli family on the creative team. The Puck Report also goes on to say that David Heyman known for his recent success, Barbie and Amy Pascal, known for Little Woman among many other films have been tasked with producing the next Bond film.

The James Bond franchise is one of the longest-running movie franchises to date. While only one James Bond film, Skyfall (2012) has made over a billion dollars at the box office, the franchise has made almost $8 billion worldwide. Fans and critics are eager to see how Pascal and Heyman, both known for producing billion-dollar-grossing films will do James Bond justice.

The James Bond reality TV show 007: Road to a Million did not see as much success as it had perhaps hoped. Fans weren't exactly thrilled by the direction the franchise was taking. However, the Puck report also suggests that a new James Bond film will be released before any TV show or spin-off, thus hopefully restoring the fans' faith in the franchise. Moreover, if a new film does get released, it opens the door for TV shows and spin-offs in the future.
