Ever since the introduction of a multiverse in 2021 Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans have been eagerly waiting for news about Spiderman 4. Tom Holland played the titular character of Peter Parker, aka Spiderman, in the previous three movies. He is expected to reprise his role in Spiderman 4.
While Holland will make a comeback as Peter Parker in Spider-Man 4, this cannot be said about its director, John Watts, who directed the previous three movies: Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).
It was reported that Watts will not direct the fourth installment of the movie. Destin Daniel Cretton will direct this upcoming film. Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, confirmed this last year, adding how Watts is currently busy with different projects.
While the previous three movies were released within two years, Spiderman 4 faced delays in writing and production due to the Hollywood writers' strike and other projects in the MCU.
What do Kevin Feige and Tom Holland have to say about Spiderman 4?
In an interview in 2023, Feige updated the fans about the status of Spiderman 4, saying that he and Amy Pascal, producer of the movie, are working on a draft for the film. He also talked about Cretton replacing Watts as the director on the fourth installment.
New details about the movie have surfaced via Tom Holland on the The Rich Roll podcast. Holland has repeatedly spoken about his love for the character and how he owes his career to Spiderman. Earlier this year, Holland agreed to keep playing Spiderman as long as the story demanded and justice was served to his character.
It looks like the first draft of Spiderman has already been out, as confirmed by Holland on the podcast-
“It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job...I read it three weeks ago, and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down, read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room.”
Apart from Tom Holland, Zendaya will also reprise her role as MJ, Peter Parker's love interest.
What can we expect from Spiderman 4?
With the MCU lineups next year, the next Spiderman film is speculated to be released in 2026. Since the Avengers movies do not have enough time to focus on individual character stories, and the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) will need some major time for the character, it is expected that Spiderman 4 will be released before Avengers 5.
The last Spiderman movie saw some multiverse madness with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield joining Holland. At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange casts a spell that wipes Peter Parker from the memory of the entire world, including his two best friends.
The upcoming Spiderman film is expected to pick up where it left, with this dilemma and Parker returning to the world after the events of the 2021 film and Avengers: Endgame. Without the support of Iron Man's technology and his friends, the ride will surely be challenging for Holland's Spiderman.
