Cabin Alone is said to be a new sequel to the Home Alone franchise. There are posts doing the rounds on social media claiming that Macaulay Culkin, the original star of the film series, is returning to play the grown-up lead in the new sequel.

Some users have shared a poster of the film as well, featuring Culkin and Catherine O'Hara, who played his mother in the franchise’s first two films. The post claims that the movie will be released on Disney+ in December 2024.

While the news has left some Home Alone fans excited, others are wondering if Cabin Alone is a real movie. The franchise’s admirers would be disappointed to know that it is not a real film. The poster being shared on social media is fake, and Disney+ has not announced any new sequel to Home Alone.

Cabin Alone is not officially in the works at Disney, and the viral poster is fake. The confusion around the movie began when a Facebook page shared a picture of Macaulay Culkin and Catherine O'Hara standing in front of a Christmas tree.

The post claimed that the two are returning for a festive-themed Home Alone sequel which will be streamed on Disney+ in December 2024. The page also shared a description of the film, stating it will revolve around Kevin McCallister and his mother, who arrive at their family’s remote cabin.

But once they reach the spot, they find out that the rest of their family will reach the cabin late as their flight is delayed. The description further proclaimed that Marv and Harry, the antagonists of the original 1990 film, will target the cabin, which will lead to a showdown between them and the mother-son duo.

The post has over 50k reactions and many fans seemed to have believed it. However, the whole description has been made up and neither Culkin nor O'Hara are reprising their roles in a potential Home Alone sequel. Interestingly, this is not the first time that fake news about Cabin Alone has spread online.

A faux poster of the film featuring Culkin was posted on Facebook in 2023 as well. At the time, the post stated that the film would revolve around a treasure hunt at a cabin and would be released on Disney+ on December 18, 2023. The rumor was later debunked.

The family comedy film series began in 1990 with the release of Home Alone, starring Macaulay Culkin as eight-year-old Kevin McCallister, who is accidentally left at home by his family while they go on a vacation to France. The film saw massive success and is counted among Hollywood classics.

Culkin then reprised his role in the 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, which marked his last appearance in the franchise. Four more sequels to the film were released in 1997, 2002, 2012, and 2021, respectively, with new actors in each movie.

In 2018, there were reports of an R-rated film inspired by Home Alone with Culkin in the lead. The film, titled Stoned Alone, was supposed to be produced by Ryan Reynolds, but the project never materialized.

Meanwhile, fans have been eager to watch Culkin’s return to the franchise, and probably that is why the fake reports around Cabin Alone frequently pop up on social media. However, neither Disney nor Culkin has confirmed the development of the film, and the rumor about the potential sequel is false.
