Adrien Brody's The Brutalist may not have performed well at the box office but the scores tell us that the film might be good. It is up and running in the theaters, but fans will have to wait for it to stream on an OTT platform, probably around April or May 2025.
Regarding which platform the film will be released first, it will be HBO Max given the deal between A24 and Warner Bros. Max already has the rights to distribute it digitally so it will be there, but we may see it on other platforms like Amazon Prime, Fandango at Home, Apple TV+, and more.
There are no fixed criteria as to when a film should be released on a streaming service, as it all depends upon the agreement between the parties. In A24's case, the films are often released on these platforms after nearly four months, and The Brutalist was released on December 20, 2024.

The Brutalist's OTT release can get it the traction
Recent films like Horizon: The American Saga Chapter 1 are climbing up the streaming charts after a poor theatrical run. The Adrien Brody movie appears to be joining this queue as it was able to garner $1.2 million against its $9.6 million budget.
We have some examples of films that became a commercial success after becoming a failure in theatres. Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), The Last Dual (2021), Turning Red (2022), and more are a few good examples of films that got traction later on streaming platforms.
The Brutalist have got what it takes to become a success given the critical scores given by critics and audiences alike. It sits with 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, 8.1 on IMDb, and 91% on Metacritic at the time of writing. Apart from Adrien Brody, Guy Pierce and Felicity Jones are worth watching in it.
Why did The Brutalist fail at the box office?
"It is a bad film." That is the first reason to be eliminated to look practically at why it failed to perform at the box office. Filmmakers like Paul Schrader, Karyn Kusama, Reinaldo Marcus Green, and more have added The Brutalist to their best films shelf already.
One reason the A24 film failed to perform theatrically is its limited release. It hammered its way on December 20, 2024. Most of the viewers were allegedly around 35 years old, which also tells us that it may not have appealed to the younger audiences, especially the Zoomers.
Like The Pianist, The Brutalist is a postwar film too. Adrien Brody took home an Oscar for his performance in the 2002 film. That film grossed around $120 million against its $35 million budget. However, this was around 22 years ago, and the Baby Boomers and Generation X were the audiences, so the appeal was a bit different at that time.
However, for those up for learning about times around the Holocaust, The Brutalist can help them out. The film's official logline reads,
"When visionary architect László Toth (Brody) and his wife Erzsébet (Jones) flee post-war Europe in 1947 to rebuild their legacy and witness the birth of modern America, their lives are changed forever by a mysterious and wealthy client."
The film has already swiped major accolades, including 5 wins out of its 6 nominations at the Venice International Film Festival. Apart from this, the film is said to be an Oscar frontrunner too, which will be held in March 2025.
