As the third season's finale wraps up Invincible's story for now, the animation is looking forward to its live-action film, which was announced almost a decade ago. Created by Robert Kirkman, who is also the mastermind behind The Walking Dead, the show and comics follow their protagonist, Mark Grayson, and his various heroic quests.
The Amazon Prime show has only explored three seasons so far but is set to return with a fourth season next year. Based on the comics created by Kirkman, which debuted in 2003, the show is expected to run for as many as nine seasons, as the director has revealed—provided it receives the expected push and hype from fans and continues to top charts on the streaming giant.
The live-action film is still in progress, and not much has been revealed about its premise yet. However, the Invincibledirector reassured fans that it is in development and could see the light of day very soon.
Speaking to ComicBook about the project, Kirkman said:
"Unfortunately, there's not much I can say. I will say that the television show makes it vastly easier and vastly more difficult in various different aspects of the development of the movie. That's kind of where I have to leave it, unfortunately. It's still early going. I would be shocked if it doesn't happen one day."
More details about Invincible's live-action film

Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Robert Kirkman will be writing, directing, and producing the live-action film, which will explore Mark Grayson's adventures as the hero Invincible and his battles against Conquest. Confirmations for the project came long before the animated series made its debut on Prime Video in 2021, with Steven Yeun starring as Grayson in the series.
Announcing the film in 2017, Kirkman said:
“Invincible‘s surprising, edgy, shocking, and oftentimes blood-soaked story couldn’t be in more capable hands. With the team of Rogen, Goldberg and Universal, I’m very confident this will be another superhero movie, in a long line of superhero movies that continues to prove that it’s a viable, thrilling genre that will keep people coming to the cinema for years to come.”
Not much has been revealed about the film as of now, as casting and plot details have been kept under wraps. Yeun might return for the live-action film, but again, everything remains speculative at this stage. Currently, the script is still undergoing changes, as Kirkman has revealed that they're still working on the film's plot.
Earlier, Kirkman spoke to Collider about the project and discussed how they are trying to give the live-action film its own identity, separate from the comics and animation. Speaking about how the team is working hard to craft that autonomy, he added:
"Just because, in relation to the show, it has to provide a different experience. It has to still be true to 'Invincible' in some interesting ways. But it has to be its own thing. It has to stand on its own. And so that's something we're spending a lot of time crafting. But I think when it finally happens, it's gonna be really cool."
Invincible the series is available to stream on Prime Video.
