iHostage is the latest crime thriller streaming on Netflix. This Dutch film, which came out on April 18, 2025, follows a kidnapping incident in an Apple store in Amsterdam, led by a 27-year-old man. Its official synopsis, per IMDb, reads,

"When a gunman enters an Apple Store in the heart of Amsterdam, the police face a delicate challenge to resolve the standoff. Based on true events."

Written by Simon de Waal and directed by Bobby Boermans, the film is based on an actual incident that happened in 2022. Boermans has previously directed episodes from shows like The Neighbours, Mocro Mafia, and High Flyers whereas De Waal has written for shows like Nemesis, Sleepers, and Noord Zuid.

Soufiane Moussouli stars in the central role of Ammar Ajar, who takes people into his custody. Admir Šehović plays Ilian Petrov, one of the kidnapped people, who hopes to find a way out of this tragedy. Loes Haverkort, Marcel Hensema, and Emmanuel Ohene Boafo make up the key supporting cast.

Soufiane Moussouli as Ammar Ajar

Soufiane Moussouli plays Ammar Ajar, a 27-year-old perpetrator behind the kidnapping. Ajar is reportedly based upon Abdel Rahman Akkad, a real-life individual who was behind a similar incident in 2022. Before starring in this crime thriller Soufiane Moussouli had also played a role in the Dutch series called Mocro Mafia.


Admir Šehović as Ilian Petrov

Admir Šehović plays Ilian Petrov, a Bulgarian traveler and one of Ajar's abductees. His character is also based on a real-life person, who was caught up in the 2022 incident. However, his name has been changed to maintain anonymity. Admir Šehović has previously starred in shows like Kotlina and Black Sun.


Emmanuel Ohene Boafo as Mingus

iHostage stars Emmanuel Ohene Boafo as Mingus an Apple store employee who puts his life on the line to protect the hostages. He helps the police pacify the situation while staying inside and understanding its gravity. Before this tense role, Emmanuel Ohene Boafo has been a part of movies like Pariah (2024) and White Barry (2022).


Marcel Hensema as Kees van Zanten

Marcel Hensema stars as Kees van Zanten, a general commander of Amsterdam’s Police Department, who tries to bring an end to the ongoing tragedy. While known for his role as Fokke Augustinus in Hollands Hoop, Marcel Hensema is a prolific Dutch actor, who has recently starred in shows like Anoniem and Legacy.


Loes Haverkort as Lynn

Loes Haverkort plays police negotiator Lynn in iHostage, who tries to get the situation under control and becomes a voice of reason between the authorities and the perpetrator. Loes Haverkort is known for her work in De jacht (2016), Juliana, Prinses van Oranje (2006), and Celblok H (2014).
