Kendrick Lamar left fans intrigued on October 5, when news broke that his diss track, Not Like Us, was submitted for the 2025 GRAMMYs. The May 2024 hit will be up for voting in five categories, including, Record & Song of the Year, Best Rap Song & Performance, and Best Music Video.

The recent development was seemingly unexpected for fans and critics alike as it would be the first time in three decades that a diss rap might bag the prestigious award. Lamar's Not Like Us is a hot-headed and explicative diss rap targeted at his rival and Canadian rapper, Drake.

The news about the track being submitted for the Grammys triggered mixed reactions from fans globally. While some of them are excited to see if the hit anthem makes it to the awards, others were taking digs at the rapper as they commented:

"I thought he was ‘Anti Establishment’ ?? He sure does love them white awards," said one X user

Some of the other users seemed to share similar thoughts and tweeted:

"Drake predicted it all. Watch how they d give him the awards for this mediocre song smh," said one user.
"If this ni**a wins a Grammy for a “drake diss” there is no way we can ever say drake didn’t make bro, claimed another X user.
"The moment really made this track bigger than it is. I feel in the future it will fall down the ranks," claimed one user.

Kendrick Lamar's fans and well-wishers didn't seem fazed by the negative tweets and shared their excitement with their fellows while commenting:

"Yes!!!👏🏾 Congrats to Kendrick . I hope he gets Best record, Rap Performance, video of the year," commented one fan.
"Kendrick changes HipHop genre's temperature whenever he feels like it, even after being dormant for a long time. Guy is a legend don't care what anyone says," tweeted another X user.
"The industry really loves him. He will win a GRAMMY in the next ceremony for sure," claimed one fan.
"Best music video is a reach. Everything else valid tbh," exclaimed one X user.

Seemingly excited about the development, an X user claimed Kendrick Lamar would sweep the Grammys. He further suggested the rapper should compile his diss tracks into an album for another award:

"Kendrick gonna sweep dat sh*t, Not Like Us is prolly his best solo song tbh, all he needs to do is compile his disses into an album format and submit that for Album of the Year, and he'll win that too💪🏽," said the user.

A look at Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us amid the GRAMMY submission

Kendrick Lamar released the controversial diss track, Not Like Us, on May 4, 2024. It dropped in the middle of a heated feud that escalated between Lamar and Drake in March 2024.

A concrete reason for the dispute was never confirmed. However, it reportedly was the result of some unfound allegations Drizzy had been making against Kendrick Lamar over the past few years.

The dispute that seemed to have calmed down escalated once again in March 2024 and triggered a fury of releases from the two rappers. Kendrick Lamar and Drake dropped at least nine songs taking controversial digs at each other, but neither compared to the global popularity of Not Like Us.

Lamar's track broke multiple streaming records upon release and became a summer anthem in no time. Post-release, Not Like Us was streamed over 12.8 million times and secured the Spotify record for the biggest single-day streams for a hip-hop song. As of the writing, it has been streamed over 820 million times on Spotify.

Kendrick Lamar's global hit topped both the US Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard Global 200 charts. It was Lamar's first solo no. 1 global Billboard hit and reigned at the top of the chart for two non-consecutive weeks.

The official music video for Not Like Us was released on July 5, 2024. The freestyle MV received similar responses as the addictive track and has been viewed over 148 million times on YouTube.

Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us has previously been nominated for the Song of Summer and Song of the Year categories at the 2024 MTV VMAs. It also secured nominations for Song of the Year, Best Hip-hop Video, and Impact Track at the 2024 BET Hip-Hop Awards.

The chart-topping hit, however, could not turn the nominations into victory and has yet to receive an accolade. If Not Like Us wins in all five categories at the 2025 GRAMMYs, it would take Lamar's GRAMMY count up to 22.

Kendrick Lamar last received a Grammy in 2023 for the Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song categories with 'The Heart Part 5.'

The 67th GRAMMY Awards are set to be held at the Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles on February 2, 2025. The final list of nominations to be considered for the prestigious award will be released by November 8, 2024.
