Pearl Jam performed at the ENGIE Stadium in Sydney, Australia on November 23, 2024, as the last show of their 2024 Australia show. During the show, the band's vocalist, Eddie Vedder, teased the possibility of another tour in the country much sooner, stating:

"We haven’t been here for ten years, so let me ask you this question, and I’m being serious. If we were to come back next year or two years tops, will you come back? I talked to the guy today; he’s holding the venues."

The 2024 tour was the first one by the band in the country by Pearl Jam in over the years. The band performed a couple of songs for the first time in several years, from Temple Of The Dog’s Hunger Strike, which was performed by the band for the first time in 10 years. Similarly, Vedder went on to play his cover of Bruce Springsteen's No Surrender for the first time since 2006.

Pearl Jam was on tour to support their Dark Matter album

Pearl Jam was on tour to support their newest album, Dark Matter, released on April 19, 2024. The band's producer Andrew Watt spoke about working with the band on the album in an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone, telling the publication how he came to produce the album:

"Well, Ed is a selfless human and he’s constantly thinking about other people, and people that he loves. And when we started making music together, even though it was for his record, he kept saying, “Man, I can’t wait for the guys to experience this.” So literally in the middle of his album, he was like “Guys, you’ve got to come down here. I’m having the time of my life. I’m so inspired. We’ve got to make some music with Andrew.”"

Watt added:

"And so right in the middle of Earthling, the band came down and we started what would become Dark Matter. A few of the songs were made in my basement studio. Everyone was face to face right there. Four or five of the songs were made in those first eight or nine days."

Later, the producer added, commenting on how he wanted band member Matt Cameron to shine in the album:

"If you listen to Dave Krusen, he did a fantastic job on Ten. That’s the record everyone loves... And if you listen to Temple of the Dog, that’s Pearl Jam with Matt Cameron drumming. So Matt Cameron is a fuckin’ drum god. Everyone just bows down to his ability and what he can do."

Watt continued stating:

"And, on some of the later Pearl Jam records, Matt being the amazing musician, producer, drummer, and multi-instrumentalist that he is, was playing parts to fit the songs. I wanted him to fuckin’ let loose. My goal, and I think this was a shared goal for everyone, was for there to be Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog level drumming on a Pearl Jam album. We wanted Matt’s personality to shine through. "

Dark Matter was the band's first new album since 2020's Gigaton and the 12th studio album. The album consists of 11 tracks and comes in at just over 48 minutes. The album is currently available for purchase from the band's official website.
