As Scotty aboard the USS Enterprise, actor Simon Pegg became a part of the iconic Star Trek franchise. We were first introduced to the Kelvin timeline version of Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek movie. The hit movie went on to have two sequels – Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013) and Star Trek: Beyond (2016). While there have been several conversations around the next installment, no updates have been released yet. That said, Pegg is rooting for Star Trek 4 and even pitching ideas of bringing back an original character on board.

At Awesome Con, which was held in Washington, DC recently, Pegg spoke to ScreenRant about the possibility of Star Trek 4. He shared,

“That would be fun. I'd like us to do another movie. I would be happy to get back with those guys and do another movie, whatever the story is. I love my Enterprise crewmates; they're the sweetest people. I was so proud of Zoe winning an Oscar this year.”

He continued,

“It's going to be a hard one for us, because we lost Anton [Yelchin], who was a very beloved member of our group. But whatever that story is, I'll be there for it. I have no news to give you in that regard, just that it's not impossible. So, fingers crossed.”

He shared that he has even pitched the makers the idea of bringing back the character Harry Mudd from Star Trek: The Original Series, which he wanted his friend and fellow actor Nick Frost to portray.

“Believe me, I've pitched it multiple times.”

Will there be a Star Trek 4?

Ever since Star Trek: Beyond, fans have been rooting for the franchise to make the next movie. There were several discussions around a final movie set in the Kelvin timeline. But there has been no update so far.

In 2024, Variety reported that the creator of the hit series ‘The Flight Attendant’, Steve Yockey, was signed to write the script for Star Trek 4. Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot are working on bringing out the final chapter of the franchise with the main cast including Chris Pine (played Captain James T. Kirk), Zachary Quinto (played Mr. Spock), Zoe Saldaña (played Lieutenant Nyota Uhura), Karl Urban (played Dr. Leonard McCoy), John Cho (played Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu) and Simon Pegg (played chief engineer Montgomery Scott) reprising their roles.

All the actors from the Star Trek franchise have shown eagerness to return to their roles. During the ACE Superhero Comic Con 2024, Chris Pine shared that he would be interested in reprising the role of the famed captain of USS Enterprise in the Kelvin timeline. As per Popverse, he said,

“We all like one another a lot. I’m good friends with everybody I’ve worked with. We have a great time doing it. I’m a lot older now, so I would be curious where that next story lands us in terms of what it would be and what we’ve said in the press.”

Though Paramount Pictures had spoken about Star Trek’s final chapter in 2024, at the annual CinemaCon tradeshow in Las Vegas recently, there were no discussions about the franchise’s future as per Trekmovie.com. We can only wait and see when Star Trek 4 will grace the screen.
