Jon Bernthal jokingly takes credit for Tom Holland landing his Spider-Man role on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
He talked about an incident between Tom Holland and him when they both were auditioning for different projects. Holland was auditioning for the role of Spider-Man, upon which Jon Bernthal had given him a suggestion that proved very helpful to Holland.
While speaking to Jimmy Kimmel, Jon Bernthal candidly mentions:
"I gave him the note, ‘Tom, maybe you should run up that wall and do a double backflip and then start the scene."
Let us find out what Jon Bernthal mentioned about Tom Holland on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
"There is a reason why he is the movie star that he is", says Jon Bernthal about Tom Holland on Jimmy Kimmel Live
At Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Jon Bernthal began the conversation about Tom Holland by saying that he is "one of the greatest human beings that ever lived" upon Kimmel asking him about his association with Holland in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey.
Then Bernthal proceeded to share an anecdote about Tom Holland. He reminisces about the 2017 film that he and Tom Holland worked together on, Pilgrimage, helmed by Brendan Muldowney, as he says:
“We did a film about seven or eight years ago, it was sort of like The Odyssey”
Then, Jon Bernthal began the conversation about the auditions that both actors were involved in for different projects. Bernthal was auditioning for The Punisher series (2017-2019), whereas Tom Holland was prepping to land the role of Spider-Man. The actors supported each other in the process.
Bernthal also mentioned how affirmative and determined Holland was about earning the role of Spider-Man, as he further mentions while speaking to Kimmel:
“That was where both Tom did his audition for Spider-Man and I did my audition for Punisher. We actually made each other’s audition tapes [working] on that film.”
“I mean he had such focus and such belief, it was so beautiful. He would say like, ‘I’m Spider-Man.’ I mean he really believed he was going to get it".
Jon Bernthal responded to Tom Holland by mentioning the intense competition for this iconic role, as he mentions in the show:
“I was like ‘There’s probably a lot of people that want to be Spider-Man. I mean, you’re super talented and all, but the odds are kind of against you, but yeah, let’s make the tape,’”
The Walking Dead actor further mentioned the rigor that Tom Holland shows in his work, which makes him such a prominent movie star, as he continued:
“He just had this belief, and when you get to know him and see how he shows up, there is a reason why he is the movie star that he is.”
Upon hearing this, Jimmy Kimmel calls Tom Holland 'the best Spider-Man ever," to which Bernthal makes a strong agreement.
He then talks about an act that Tom Holland did in the audition, which was actually suggested by Bernthal, as he recalls:
“I gave him the note, ‘Tom, maybe you should run up that wall and do a double backflip and then start the scene.’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, you think I should do that? That’s not too much?’”
“I was like, ‘I don’t think any of these other fools are able to do that,’ and he in fact did that,”
“It’s not that I take responsibility for him, but you know, like a little something.”
