Disney's Snow White live-action film has been a hot topic in the media since its release, but maybe not for all the right reasons. Based on the 1937 classic, the film explored the first Disney princess story with a little 21st-century twist and a missing Prince and CGI dwarves, all of which contributed to the film's less-than-satisfactory response at the box office.
Directed by Mark Webb, Snow White stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot in the lead with Andrew Burnap as a new character called Jonathon who replaces the Prince's role in the new story. The film has been criticized as being too woke by many, while some have appreciated it's charming premise and Rachel Zegler's portrayal of Snow White.
At the box office, however, Snow White has performed rather poorly. Originally expected to collect close to $100 million in its opening weekend, the film raked in $16 million only and is projected to earn around $45 million in its first week.
Box office reports have speculated that the film will have to toughen up in significant numbers to earn back the whopping $250 million it spent on production.
Snow White's numbers are not exactly unprecedented. Disney has seen major success in all its live-action adaptations, leaving out a handful but Snow White can very well join one of the higher-earning projects helmed by the studio. Here's how the film is performing as compared to other live-action adaptations.
Comparing Snow White with Disney's other live-action adaptations

Disney saw massive success with the live-action adaptation of The Lion King, which managed to rake in $191,770,759 on opening day. This was followed by Disney's most successful Disney Princess live-action adaptation, Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson which earned $174,750,616.
The last Disney Princess adaptation the studio put out, The Little Mermaid opened with $95,578,040. Looking at all the figures, Snow White joins the list as the second lowest domestic opening with $45 million, joining Mulan which brought in only $22,745,143. Other significant successes the studio has held have been through Alice in Wonderland, which earned $116,101,023; The Jungle Book at $103,261,464 and Aladdin at $91,500,929.
As for the box office disappointments, Pete’s Dragon brought in only $21,514,095 while Cruella managed $21,496,997. At the bottom of the list, there's Glenn Close's 102 Dalmatians which only earned $19,883,351.
It will be interesting to observe the box office trends Snow White follows and what path the financial meter takes after its initial disappointing opening.
