The 2024 gothic horror adaptation Nosferatu by Robert Eggers hit the theatres on December 25, and just less than a month gap, today, the film has been made available on video-on-demand services. With speculations going around an extended cut of Bill Skarsgård's 132-minute-long horror journey, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has now confirmed the digital 4k & Blu-ray release date.
The extended cut will be available on Blu-ray streaming starting from February 18. Nosferatu is an adaptation of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film Nosferatu: A Symphony Of Horror. The original story is that of the iconic horror character Dracula, crafted by Bram Stoker in 1987.
Nosferatu stars Bill Skarsgård as the infamous Count Orlok alongside Lili-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron-Taylor Johnson, William Dafoe, and Emma Corin in some lead roles. The official synopsis of the movie reads:
"A gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake."
How to watch Robert Eggers' Nosferatu online?
Robert Eggers' Nosferatu is now available for streaming at home through multiple streaming options, including VOD. The Blu-ray version, which is still a month away, includes several deleted scenes from the original theatrical version that premiered during Christmas last year.
However, in the meantime, you can rent or purchase the movie through retailers, namely:
- Apple TV
- Microsoft Movies
- Fandango At Home
- Google Play
- Movies Anywhere
- Comcast Xfinity
- Cox
The 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD editions will portray the extended cut, which will reportedly go up to 3 hours. One of the sequences of Skarsgård's Count Orlok from the trailer was not in the original cut but will make room in the Blu-ray versions.
Earlier in January, Robert Eggers reportedly told Esquire UK:
"It's one of those annoying things for film dorks because it's not in the movie. It's a really cool shot - I really liked the shot - but where it was intended, it was ruining some tension to know that Orlok was around. We needed to keep him more mysterious. But if you would wish to purchase the Blu-ray, it is in the extended version of the film."
What special features will be there in the extended cut of Nosferatu?
As per multiple reports, 4K and Blu-ray versions of Nosferatu will include special features. In one of the sequences of the extended cut, fans will witness Lily-Rose's Ellen Hutter waiting by a window. Helmer Robert Eggers will also reportedly feature himself in an audio commentary. Another one will reveal scenes from the bedchamber of Anna Harding (played by Emma Corin), who is seen pregnant with Friedrich's child.
The regenerated cut of Nosferatu will portray the gothic masterpiece reboot as Egger's lifelong aspiration of creating a gem comes true! With a star-studded cast, accurate costume design, and appropriate make-up, the 1838 vampire classic has been recreated with hardly any flaws to catch!
Computer graphics has been used as and when needed, with visual effects supervisor Angela Barson taking the lead. Moreover, Bill Skarsgård's portrayal of Count Orlok is just the perfect match, with the 34-year-old Swedish actor stealing the show. Furthermore, Robin Carolan's background score has set the mood right for Eggers' gothic horror adaptation as her song named The Third Night gets the deserved space in the extended cut of Nosferatu.
