Jake Kasdan's latest action-adventure comedy film, Red One, starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, was released globally by Warner Bros. Pictures on November 6, 2024. Later in the same month, it premiered in the United States through Amazon MGM Studios.
Chris Morgan wrote the story, which has been adapted from Hiram Garcia's original work. Shortly after its theatrical release, fans speculated about Red One's online streaming and premiere on digital media.
Though no date is confirmed yet by Amazon or other OTT platforms, a study of release patterns over the years leaves us with some ideas. The official synopsis of Red One reads:
"After Santa Claus (code name: Red One) is kidnapped, the North Pole's Head of Security must team up with the world's most infamous bounty hunter in a globe-trotting, action-packed mission to save Christmas."
How to watch Red One online this Christmas?
Amazon MGM Studios exclusively released Red One in the United States on November 15, 2024, a week after its world premiere. However, the movie has not yet been released on any OTT platform.
Since it is an MGM work, it is expected to stream on MGM. However, the distribution studio has not confirmed any dates yet.
However, MGM is currently owned by Amazon following the 2022 acquisition. Over the years, the release pattern has been similar. First, the movies are premiered on MGM+, followed by free streaming on Amazon Prime.
For instance, the film Challengers was also a production of MGM Studios. After its theatrical release, the movie was digitally screened a month later. However, it did not hit Amazon Prime Video until five months later.
Following a similar trend, you can expect Red One to be digitally released on video-on-demand services by mid-December and on Amazon Prime by April or May 2025. Currently, the MGM+ subscription costs $5.99 per month, and users can also avail a seven-day free trial pack.
Can users stream Red One on Netflix or other OTT platforms?
There is no news of Red One being streamed on Netflix or other OTT platforms. Being an MGM movie, it will likely be available to stream on Prime Video and MGM+.
What is Red One about?
As reported by Sportskeeda, the story of Red One centers on a bounty hunter cum hacker named Jack O' Molley (played by Marvel star Chris Evans), who is abducted and taken to the North Pole. Once he gets there, he is surprised to see that it is not at all how he had things in his imagination.
The team that took Jack tells him that Santa Claus is in danger, and they immediately need to deploy a unit to go for a rescue mission. Soon after, Jack comes across Callum Drift, head of North Pole security, who is also responsible for leading the rescue mission. A sentient polar bear named Agent Garcia keeps an eye on Jack in the meantime as he is a newbie.
Jack finally sets off on his rescue mission with his team to find out the people who kidnapped Santa and extracted him. While on his journey, he encounters a world of fantasy where Christmas toys and gift closets work magically. The movie is reportedly filled with elements of action and adventures studded with comedy.
