It's just a matter of weeks that Captain America: Brave New World hits the theaters, and rumors surrounding the film are deemed right or wrong. Of course, the big red guy is making big headlines. Fans are speculating how Red Hulk in the upcoming film will be different from Bruce Banner's Hulk.
We know a few things already. For one, Red Hulk emanates heat — lots of it — when he is angry. Sandman would want to stay away from him should he wish not to be turned into a 'Glassman' (which has actually happened, though not owing to Red Hulk's energy).
Since we have mentioned energy, another thing comes to mind. Thaddeus Ross' version of Hulk, or Red Hulk, can absorb it — not just gamma radiation but cosmic energy, too. Goes without saying he could be a worthy opponent to Thanos, given the military mindset and power.
There's more to it, so we shall now see how the two Hulks are different from each other in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Both the big guys are intelligent but in their own rights
Let's be honest, their intelligence is something that would make them a worthy opponent to each other. Thaddeus Ross is going to be the President of the United States, overlooking different matters in Captain America: Brave New World. It's no easy task for an average being.
Ross comes with a military background, having served as the US Army General, as we first saw the late William Hurt portray the role in The Incredicble Hulk (2008). However, there's more to his story as in how he rose through the ranks in Marvel comics.
Apart from his military prowess, his Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World comes with a consciousness — he has better control over his body. It took Banner 17 years to control it but it did work out for him, especially during the Blip.
Banner doesn't come with a military background but a more scientific one, so he can overpower Ross with his knowledge of how the transformation works. He has essentially studied his transformation for years, which makes it a more fatal than tactical gimmick.
Banner's Hulk is more humane than Ross' Red Hulk
Captain America: Brave New World's Ross is different, but so was William Hurt's portrayals in The Incredible Hulk and Civil War (2016). All these versions were cut from the cloth of the same fibre: Ego.
Speaking to Los Angeles Times, Hurt once said:
"What I created before was a Ross who was right out of the graphic novel type of thing, where he was as much of a cartoon, in a way, as the monsters were. His ego was just as big and his problems were just as big. I really did do that consciously. I created a General Ross before which created a verisimilitude for the monsters, by making him a human monster."
Then when we saw him popping up in Civil War, he wasn't really different. The Harisson Ford version is expected to emanate the same vibes other than the heat. Given that he has better control of his monstrous transformation, we are likely to see him using it to his advantage in Captain America: Brave New World. When he came across Sam Wilson beneath cherry blossom in the trailer, it didn't look like the sun was getting low for him. He was more in the mood for a duel.
Bruce Banner's Hulk doesn't really need an explanation as to why he is more human. We are all aware of the sensitive guy within, who just needed a lullaby to come to his senses. With his "I am always angry" line in The Avengers to him sharing a taco with the Scott Lang in Avengers: Endgame, Banner's Hulk has shown more humane qualities than most humans in the MCU.
Will Red Hulk vs. Hulk happen in Captain America: Brave New World?
Now, that's a big if for the fans! Will the big guys meet head-on in Captain America: Brave New World? The rumors were they will, and then Mark Ruffalo kind of confirmed it earlier last year, and then denied it. For what we know, actors have denied their appearances in MCU films and have appeared in them eventually (think Andrew Garfield).
Captain America and Falcon (Danny Ramirez) aren't really a match for Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World, so they could use some help. But nothing's official yet, so take that as a no for now.
